After 30 years, the IELP will be closing its doors on May 9, 2025. Since 1995, the IELP has welcomed over 2,000 students from 120 countries, many of whom have gone on to complete their degrees at UNO and make New Orleans and the surrounding areas their home.

As we informed our current students and alumni of the closure of the IELP, we received messages of shock, sadness, and incredible gratitude. The heartwarming messages of love and support show just how many lives have been changed because of the IELP.

Please join us next Tuesday, May 6 from 3:30pm-5:30pm in the International Center Student Lounge for a CELEBRATION of an incredible 30 years of language teaching & learning, friendship, and family with the IELP.

#2025 is off to a great start! Our first of the year is Josue Mohon from Côte d'Ivoire. Josue is currently studying Computer Science at the University of New Orleans. Go, Josue!

More than two years ago, when I had the opportunity to come to the United States to continue my studies, beyond the excitement this experience offered to me, I was also worried about what lay ahead as it was obviously a challenge as to whether or not I would be able to adapt to this pace of life that awaited me, particularly culture and especially English. Yes, I knew I urgently needed to improve my English level. Fortunately, thanks to the IELP staff, I found beyond just a teaching staff; I found a family. They accompanied me throughout my English learning process. IELP gave me the tools to integrate more easily into student life. Their advice and expertise helped me to have the necessary tools to integrate more easily. IELP, beyond teaching me English, also taught me a lot about American culture, which is a considerable factor for my integration today. When I look at my life in the United States today, I am truly happy and grateful to have gone through the IELP program.

of former IELP student, Mariia Bidiuk from ! Mariia arrived to New Orleans from Ukraine over a year ago due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Thanks to a very generous donation from the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans, Mariia has been able to develop her English language proficiency in the IELP.

Starting as a beginner Level 1 student of the program, Mariia has worked very hard, and with her motivation and dedication, she completed the last level of the program. We are grateful to have served as a “home away from home” for Mariia.

Hello, my name is Mariia. I am 19 years old and I am from Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. My favorite Ukrainian food is borscht. Borsht is a vibrant, red color soup with cabbage, beets, potatoes, carrots, onion and garlic, and possibly beef and beans. The best borscht for me is made by my mother.

I miss Ukraine. I miss my friends who live there. I miss my family. Now, I continue to study online at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Because of the time difference, I usually study at night (the difference is eight hours between the US and Ukraine). I'm studying philosophy in my third year.

I came to New Orleans over a year ago. During this time, I have gotten used to living in New Orleans. I really like the people who live here and the relaxed atmosphere of the city. I have enjoyed the time that I have lived here.

I am very happy that I can study at the IELP. This language learning program helps me improve my English skills. I like the teachers who teach. They always help me with any questions. I want to go to university in the US and continue to study philosophy. For now, I need to improve my English level so that I can do this.

I am very grateful that they helped me pay for my education. It is very important for me. I want to say thank you to all those people who have helped me all this time. Thank you that I was able to get into IELP❤
