🩵💛HONORING TENISHA STEVENS-BOYD (Class of 2008)🩵💛🏰🤺💛

June SUNO Hall of Famer Spotlight: Alumna Tenisha Stevens-Boyd

Tenisha Stevens-Boyd is a distinguished criminal justice executive whose career spans more than 30 years of leadership in public safety, system reform, and community-centered innovation. A trailblazer in her field, she made history as the first Black woman appointed to the highest criminal justice advisory role in the City of New Orleans, serving as Criminal Justice Commissioner for the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice Coordination from 2018 to 2026. A proud graduate of John F. Kennedy Senior High School, Class of 1989, she has dedicated her life’s work to building safer, more equitable systems for all New Orleanians.

During her tenure as Commissioner, Tenisha secured and strategically allocated more than $26 million in public grant funding, including $7 million in CARES Act resources and $7.5 million in congressional Community Project funding. Her leadership helped drive a 47% reduction in the local jail population, reflecting her commitment to data-driven reform and community well-being. She expanded the Office of Criminal Justice Coordination’s operational capacity, strengthening interagency collaboration and supporting the New Orleans Police Department in achieving substantial compliance with a federal consent decree.

Before her historic appointment, Tenisha served as Deputy Chief of Investigations at the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, where she oversaw investigative operations and advanced critical process improvements across multiple agencies. Her extensive career includes service as a Criminal Investigator, Special Agent in the Medicaid Fraud Section of the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, and Analyst with the New Orleans Police Department—roles that collectively demonstrate her depth of expertise and unwavering dedication to public service.

Tenisha’s impact as Commissioner is marked by transformative initiatives that reshaped the city’s criminal justice landscape. She reorganized the City of New Orleans Re-Entry Taskforce and established a Re-Entry Triage Team to support individuals returning from incarceration. She developed the City’s Violence Reduction Strategy Plan, co-chaired the nationally recognized Ethnic and Racial Disparity Working Group, and launched the Youth Justice Collaborative to direct American Rescue Plan Act funding toward youth justice reform. Her policy leadership also ensured continuity of behavioral health care and comprehensive transition services for individuals released from the Orleans Justice Center.

A proud alumna of Southern University at New Orleans, Tenisha holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Dillard University. She is an active and devoted member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., reflecting her lifelong commitment to service, sisterhood, and social action.

Tenisha Stevens-Boyd’s career is defined by courage, innovation, and a steadfast belief in the power of equitable justice. Her leadership has left an enduring mark on New Orleans and continues to inspire the next generation of public safety and community reform professionals.

Happy Saturday Fellow Knights,

💙💛 A Call to Our SUNO Alumni Family 💛💙

Staying engaged with the SUNO Alumni Association is more than a membership — it is a commitment to the legacy that shaped us. Each of us holds a degree that opened doors, created opportunities, and positioned us to grow personally and professionally. Because SUNO poured into us, we now have the privilege and responsibility to pay it forward.

As we continue expanding the Alumni Association, your voice, your presence, and your participation matter. When alumni stay connected, volunteer, mentor, give, and show up, we strengthen the foundation for future generations of Knights. Our growth depends on the collective power of graduates who believe in SUNO’s mission and are willing to help move it forward.

We are calling on every alum to stay engaged, stay active, and help us build an association that reflects the excellence, resilience, and pride of our university. Together, we can expand our reach, elevate our impact, and ensure that SUNO continues to transform lives — just as it transformed ours.

Let’s grow, give back, and lead the way. Armor Up, Knights!

A SUNO Knight Yesterday, A SUNO Knight Today, A SUNO Knight Forever!!
💙💛 With gratitude and respect,
SUNO Alumni Association President
