🛸 Alien Status, the play, opens October 22!

The show poster was created by Design student Angelina Mandel in collaboration with the Theatre Arts and Dance (TAD) department as a client. Since the play is a tale of aliens set in New Orleans, Angelina highlighted an eerily glowing green street lamp above the downtown skyline in the design.

Thanks to all who attended the Environmental Roundtable Series “Beyond the Human: Animals, Media, and the Stories We Tell.” Your participation helped make it a great gathering!

The presentation explored how the media shapes the ways we understand and relate to animals, reinforcing or challenge speciesist perspectives and influencing the stories we tell about the more-than-human world.

More than 100 Loyola students will be working and performing at Funk Fest. Howl Entertainment, Loyola’s student-run agency, booked the shows, with Music Business students advancing artists as part of their coursework.

Interested in music as resistance? 🥁 Join us for the Fall edition of the Research Chat & Chew Series with Dr. Cody Case, Director of Student Services in the College of Music and Media and Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology.

Dr. Case will discuss Afro-Brazilian Carnival music in Salvador and explore how music and cultural expression can serve as powerful forms of community resistance. He will also share how research and analytical thinking can deepen our understanding of culture and society.

Last week, Nicholas Lemann discussed “The Crisis in American Journalism” followed by a Q&A led by Loyola Mass Communication student Dessadra Tezeno.

Lemann, a New Orleans native and graduate of Harvard College, is a longtime staff writer for The New Yorker and the Joseph Pulitzer II and Edith Pulitzer Moore Professor of Journalism and Dean Emeritus at Columbia University.

Thank you to Lemann for walking students through the history of journalism and for highlighting the vital importance of the profession going forward.
