LSUNO is thrilled to welcome guitarist JESSE LEWIS to Jazz at the Sandbar this week, Weds, Oct 21st. Lewis will be performing with student combos under the direction of Jamison Ross and Jesse McBride.
βRebirthing the cool in the 21st century, Jesse Lewis is flipping the script on jazz for a whole new generation,β writes Australian music critic Jeremy Balius (Fly Global Music). Hailed as an βarticulate aceβ and βscorching guitaristβ by The New York Times and a βpoet of the steel stringβ by Stereophile Magazine, the New York City-based guitarist is an in-demand collaborator whose work fluidly spans jazz, world music, pop, and electronic genres.
Lewis has graced the stages of legendary concert halls like Carnegie Hall and Town Hall, as well as premier jazz institutions around the globe including New York Cityβs Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls, Joeβs Pub, and the 55 Bar. Over his career, he has recorded and performed alongside leading creative visionaries such as Chris Potter, Mark Turner, Anat Cohen, Donny McCaslin, Dave Douglas, and Linda May Han Oh. He was also a featured soloist on Mike Holober & The Gotham Jazz Orchestraβs 2019 GRAMMY-nominated album, showcasing his expressive versatility at the highest levels of the genre.
Beyond jazz, Lewisβs collaborative spirit reaches across diverse musical traditionsβfrom working with R&B star Chrisette Michele and singer-songwriter Jo Lawry (featuring Sting) to African music icons Chiwoniso and Sam Mtukudzi. As a bandleader and composer, he explores the intersection of jazz, rock, ambient, and electronic textures with projects like his album Atticus, his nature-inspired acoustic duo ENDLESS FIELD with bassist Ike Sturm, and his solo electronic work under the moniker SOUNDS OF ATTICUS.
