What if artificial intelligence could compress decades of scientific discovery into mere months?
A Tulane University team is putting that possibility to the test as part of the federal Genesis Mission. Led by physics professor Jianwei Sun, researchers from physics, chemistry and computer science are combining AI, advanced simulations and laboratory experimentation in pursuit of one of science’s “holy grails”: superconductors that can function at higher temperatures.
The implications could be enormous, from more efficient power grids and electronics to advances in transportation, medical imaging and quantum computing.
The team has received $750,000 for its initial nine-month project, conducted in partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, with the potential to unlock as much as $15 million in second-phase funding.
