Dear UHC Family,

On October 11, 1982, Jose Varela reported for work to cut the grass on the campus of Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent and College (now the University of Holy Cross). Today, he retires as Facilities Manager and a 1st Class Engineer. Please join me in celebrating Jose and the extraordinary 44 years of service to the University of Holy Cross.

Jose has been part of the heart of this University. His dedication has helped keep our campus a place where everyone feels cared for and at home.

As a token of our deep appreciation and to mark this milestone, I had the honor of presenting Jose with a University of Holy Cross medal. It is a small symbol of the enormous gratitude we all feel for his years of faithful service.

Please join me in congratulating Jose and thanking him for all he has given to the UHC family. If you see him today, be sure to share your well wishes. As he begins this exciting new chapter, we wish him good health, rest, and many happy moments with family and friends. May God bless him abundantly in the years ahead. Jose, you will always have a home here at Holy Cross.

Dr. Lisa Sullivan Named 2026 CityBusiness Woman of the Year!

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Lisa Sullivan, VP for Academic Affairs & Provost, on being named to the 2026 New Orleans CityBusiness Women of the Year list! This well-deserved recognition of her leadership and dedication to UHC is no surprise to our community, as Dr. Sullivan impacts students, faculty & staff and the broader community on a daily basis in so many ways. We are grateful for all that you do for every single person who walks through our doors!

For nearly 40 years Dr. Lisa Sullivan has dedicated her life to the University of Holy Cross. She began her journey at what was then Our Lady of Holy Cross College in 1987 as the Moreau Scholar and soon became a student leader. After graduating with a degree in education, she became a member of the college’s alumni board. In 2005, Dr. Sullivan began teaching as an adjunct instructor of mathematics until 2007 when she joined the education faculty full time. Dr. Sullivan eventually moved into the role of Chair of Education where she led the department in opening new academic programs, including the Master of Education in Teaching and Learning and the Doctorate in Executive Leadership. In 2021, she was named to her current role as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Since 1999, the Women of the Year award has recognized fifty women from the Greater New Orleans area whose successes in business and contributions to the community have made them exemplary leaders in the region.

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Sullivan's achievement and her ongoing commitment to academic excellence at UHC. Congratulations, Dr. Sullivan!

Yesterday was an amazing Wednesday at UHC! 7:30 AM prayer service, 12:30 PM Mass, and 1:30 PM Worship & Waffles brought our community together in a very special way. From scripture readings to shared testimony to food and fellowship, the events were enjoyed by all. Students, faculty, and staff dropped in before or after classes to mix, mingle, and Praise God!
