For the past 10 years, pre-health students who are also learning Spanish have been travelling to the Dominican Republic with Dr. Joel Postema where they are able to help translate in health clinics and home visits. This year we also were able to bring two of Westminster's nursing students (no Spanish required!) and the work that we accomplished was amazing!

For the first time, this service-learning trip to the Dominican Republic is part of Westminster's Giving Day (April 16) and we would ask you to consider making a donation to help students with their travel expenses. Every little bit helps!

We are making the best of being awake at. 3:30 am and in high spirits because we are heading to the Dominican Republic for a week of service learning to put our language and medical skills to work. More to follow!

Dominican Republic dates for 2026:
-> March 14-21 - Medical service-learning trip for pre-health/Spanish students.
-> May 11-18 - Tentative dates for construction service-learning trip open to all students

With much thanks to those who have generously donated funds to the Department of Modern Language, we are proud to unveil two new pieces of art decorating our space. Both prints are by American artist Shepard Fairey, but the content is perfect for our department. Stop by and say "hola" or "bonjour" and check them out!
