Program
Overview
I SING BEIJING will offer courses taught by an international faculty of operatic experts, including:
• Individual coaching sessions in the Western-style operatic repertoire
• Coaching in Chinese modern operatic repertoire with a focus on diction, singing and phrasing in Mandarin, and general introduction to the background and style of this emerging genre
• Daily Mandarin classes
• Individual acting coaching
• Performance classes to work on character building, vocal and dramatic delivery, and performance package
• Lectures covering a variety of topics such as standard Western-style repertoire; Chinese history and culture; lore, legends and epics that inspire dramatic stage works; Chinese librettos vs. Indo-European librettos; encounters and workshops with prominent Chinese composers
• Discussions on career building and development, performing arts market in greater China, audition techniques and industry expectations
• Scene work in preparation of the final gala concert
• New for 2013 will be a program or master class for students interested in learning about Arts Management and Administration in China
• Field trips to historic sites such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City
Eligibility
The program is seeking young professional and graduate level singers of all nationalities.
Age requirements: men (36 years of age and younger by the program start date); women (33 years of age and younger by the program start date)
Fees
This full-scholarship program will be offered by Hanban, including tuition, room and board, facilities, materials, excursions and Chinese Visa. Participants are only responsible for their international travel and personal incidentals.

Housing
Students will live in the city of Beijing, the cultural and political enter of China. They will be housed at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), located in the Chaoyang District.
Lying in the north-east of the city, Beijing's dynamic Chaoyang District is known as the financial hub and also boasts many art galleries, embassies, upscale bars and restaurants.
Beijing is also the home of four opera companies, more than ten symphony orchestras, four main theaters and two major conservatories. This enables students to experience the breadth of the Chinese cultural heritage and its blossoming artistic scene.
