"NYU has always been a dream. I still remember seeing the acceptance letter and saying I can't believe this." - Ekta, current Master's in Integrated Marketing student.

Ekta, originally from India, pursued her academic and professional journey with remarkable strides. She completed an MBA at Case Western Reserve University, during which she engaged actively as the President of the graduate student body and initiated a podcast to enhance interactions among students and faculty while exploring brand partnerships. Graduating in 2022, she took on a challenging marketing role tailored for her by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

Realizing her passion for marketing, Ekta decided to pursue a second master's degree in Integrated Marketing at the NYU School of Professional Studies. Her proactive engagement continued as she joined the Integrated Marketing Association and took on significant responsibilities like managing social media. Ekta's journey illustrates the importance of pursuing your passions and leveraging diverse skills to navigate a fulfilling career path.

Meet IMC alum Jamila Black ('20): "Growing up in the Bronx, I always aspired to follow in the footsteps of Angie Martinez, drawn to her deep-rooted connection to community and culture. Pursuing my undergraduate studies at the University at Albany, I graduated in 2016 with a BA in communications and public relations, alongside a minor in sociology. I found sociology particularly intriguing for its exploration of social welfare and diverse perspectives, which broadened my outlook.

Prior to studying at NYU, I ventured into political communications, initially seeing public service as a promising career path. However, amidst the 2016 election, my perspective shifted. I gained valuable experience through legislative internships, working for Albany County and Mayor De Blasio. Yet, by the year's end, I felt compelled to make a career shift.

After my time at Albany, I had the privilege of meeting Professor Kerry O'Grady, who helped me realize the potential to merge my love for community and culture with a career in public relations again. This realization led me to NYU School of Professional Studies’ program, where I delved deeper into communications and advocacy under the mentorship of Professor Mattera. Her course, "Communications and Advocacy," was a turning point, introducing me to the realm of corporate social responsibility. After graduating in 2020, I took a role at Cabrini Health Foundation, where I now use the skills I have developed to ignite meaningful change."

"I’m a born communicator, however, to have the opportunity to not only be exposed to classmates who share the same strengths in communication, and professors who are at the top of the PR field is inspiring." - Emma Chamandy, current Public Relations and Corporate Communications student.

Emma is a lifelong theatre-goer and Broadway super-fan who hopes to work on the agency side of PR in community relations after graduation. She has loved making her dream of living in NYC and attending New York University a reality. Reflecting on her time at NYU School of Professional Studies, Emma emphasized the power of "yes" when building out your graduate school experience.

"Say yes to events that are put on through NYU, say yes to panels with industry professionals, say yes to site-visits, to group hangouts, to unfamiliar concerts, and to sporting events. Take advantage of living in a city where you are one of only a few in the world who get to live here. Time flies –and whether you are here for 2 or 4 years, you blink and suddenly you’re walking across the stage at graduation. Soak up every opportunity presented to you – lean into the discomfort, default to optimism, and be willing to learn both inside and outside of the classroom."

Mis/Disinformation is a defining challenge of our time. How can communicators and marketers lead in the rapidly evolving and increasingly misleading marketplace?

Visiting professor, Kathryn Metcalfe, joined the Unlock crowd at SXSW to share NYU SPS Integrated Marketing & Communications ongoing commitment to demystify mis- and disinformation. The IMC program at NYU School of Professional Studies helps students:

-Understand most common sources of mis- and disinformation
- Learn to identify and act on questionable information distribution
- Enhance their ability to predict and prevent mis- and disinformation
- Mitigate risks in their organizations

Kathryn collaborated with Bob Pearson, Ray Kerins and the Next Practices Group to bring this discussion to life!

"Graduating in 2018 with a degree in Supply Chain Management and Finance, my professional journey began in the Bay Area at Apple as a procurement analyst and then later promoted to a Global Supply Manager. For my next role, I wanted to get more into the Partnerships space and took on roles as a Partnerships Manager at Square and eventually moving to Plaid, both within the fintech space." - Emily Jing, a current student in our MS in Integrated Marketing program.

"After five years in tech, I realized I wanted to merge my career closer to my passions. Music had always been a passion of mine, leading me to explore opportunities in performing in musical theater and even serving as a tour guide at the Statue of Liberty. Yet, the demanding nature of performance made me reassess my path. Through conversations with colleagues, I rediscovered my passion for artistry and music, igniting a desire to work in brand building and partnerships within the music industry – something I had not experienced in my previous roles.

Driven by this newfound purpose, I began exploring graduate programs to deepen my understanding of marketing. The NYU School of Professional Studies program emerged as the perfect fit, offering the perfect opportunity for my aspirations. I'm currently interning at Warner Music Group, one of my dream companies, and feel so incredibly grateful for the opportunities this community and school provide.

It's never too late to pivot into something else."

"I opted to pursue the Integrated Marketing Master’s program due to its seamless integration with my career trajectory. With an interest in hands-on marketing and communications experiences, I sought an educational pathway that not only offered advanced insights but also acknowledged the significance of prior expertise." - Gillian Setiawan, an NYU SPS Master's in Integrated Marketing student.

Gillian obtained her BS in Marketing and Management Leadership with a minor in Biology from Boston College. Post-graduation, Gillian spent a year as a biotech consultant in Boston. However, her inclination towards creative marketing experiences led her to explore programs emphasizing marketing analytics, with New York University standing out as a top contender.

"At NYU, I engaged in real-world projects like the Samsung collaboration, where my team emerged victorious after diligently addressing the client brief over a semester. Throughout my NYU tenure, Professor Joanne Tombrakos served not only as an inspiring educator but also as a valuable mentor, guiding me in academics and even aiding in my job search, including facilitating connections for opportunities abroad."

"I decided to enroll in the Executive Master's program because it perfectly aligns with my career journey. With over a decade of experience in marketing and communications, I was searching for an educational experience that not only offered advanced knowledge but also recognized the value of prior expertise." - Nicolas Cubillos, a student in our Executive Master's in Marketing and Strategic Communications program.

Nicolas, who obtained his BFA in Performing Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design, recognized early on the "immense power of storytelling." He wanted to further his educational journey in that direction, and came across the NYU School of Professional Studies. "I truly believe that this program will significantly enhance my career trajectory by providing me with a well-rounded education and valuable experience. With this knowledge and expertise, I hope to steer my career toward a role where I can effectively leverage my vision and skills to make a positive impact. I'm excited about the opportunities this program will open up and the potential it holds for my professional growth."

Based in Austin, Texas, Nicolas is completing his Executive Master's degree online, though he appreciated the on-site residency at the beginning of the program. "One of my favorite moments in the program has been the immersion week in New York City. That week was not only a fantastic learning experience but also a memorable adventure. I enjoyed every aspect of it, from the insightful sessions to the guest speakers. Equally significant was the opportunity to interact with my cohort. Building connections with my fellow students has been a highlight of this journey so far, and I'm genuinely looking forward to standing alongside them during our graduation."

In IM&C instructor George Benaroya's Finance for Marketing Decisions fall class, students picked a Global Fortune 500 company to "lead," requiring them to hone their decision-making capabilities. During the semester, students learned to make decisions on topics from headcount, to pricing, to prioritizing during times of limited inventory. At the end of the semester, C-Executives were invited to class to share how they make such decisions in real life. Guest speakers also reviewed student work and shared tips for growing revenue and profitability. Students used that feedback to prepare their final strategic plans.

This past semester, students spoke with:
Elizabeth Nieto, Spotify’s Global Head of Equity
Milton Brandt, Walmart de México y Centroamérica CFO
Alessandro Ventura, Unilever’s Global Head of Business Transformation
