Touro's Graduate School of Education was officially established in 1993 and, today, is among the largest schools of education in the state of New York. Our enrollment draws on the constantly-evolving urban community of New York and reflects an extremely diverse student body, including students from all over the world. Consistent with Touro's mission, the School of Education remains solidly committ

ed to high quality universal education. Our goal is to offer exemplary programs and to graduate outstanding students prepared to provide superior future leadership in the field of education. In addition to serving traditional full-time graduates who have recently completed their undergraduate degrees, Touro’s Graduate School of Education supports the academic needs of applicants who are already employed and who desire to upgrade their professional preparation or obtain additional credentials. Therefore, evening, weekend, and online classes are offered to accommodate the needs of working professionals. The School of Education, the largest in the Division of Graduate Studies, is dedicated to excellence in education for a rapidly-changing education environment. In order to provide school districts and other educational agencies with highly professional and competent teachers, administrators, and educational personnel, every effort is made to maximize the quality of our programs. To this end, the School continues to strengthen its internal systems for supporting the high performance of both students and faculty; develop new programs that can effectively meet the contemporary needs of schools – especially those serving high-needs and diverse student bodies; and expand the School's collaboration with a wide range of national and state stakeholders in education. The School currently offers seven graduate degree programs and six certificate programs leading to New York State certification. in Education and Special Education (including an online/blended program option) http://gse.touro.edu/academics/masters-programs/education--special-education/

"Literacy is really about how we understand and use information in any form... Realizing that every single subject has its own unique way of reading and communicating was a MAJOR lightbulb moment for me." 💡
We are incredibly proud of our students at Touro GSE! Recently, Ashley Kelly shared a beautiful reflection with Professor Andrea Kane about how her perspective on literacy has transformed, and how she’s bringing those lessons into her 9th-grade special education algebra classroom.
Instead of assuming students can just jump into solving equations, Ashley is planning to teach her students how to "read" math. By breaking down word problems, translating abstract symbols, and using visual and hands-on tools, she is removing the reading barrier so her students can focus on the actual math. 🧮✨
Most importantly, Ashley is dedicated to building her students' confidence and showing them that they truly belong in her classroom.
Thank you, Ashley, for your dedication to inclusive education, and thank you to Prof. Kane for guiding our future educators! 🌟

Huge news for the Touro University Graduate School of Education family! We are thrilled to announce that we have been officially granted national accreditation for 5 years by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (), effective immediately! 🎓✨
This milestone is a true testament to the hard work, dedication, and heart that our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners bring to Touro GSE every single day. Every contribution—big and small—brought us to this moment.

Research at Touro GSE is making a major impact on the future of teacher preparation! 🍎✨
We are proud to highlight the collaborative research of Dr. Sharon Sullivan-Rubin, Dr. Charity M. Dacey, and Nicole Aveni (US PREP) in their latest publication, "Scaling for Success: Expanding the Empire State Teacher Residency Program".
The research explores the rapid expansion of the Empire State Teacher Residency Program (ESTRP)—a powerful partnership between Touro GSE and NYC Public Schools (NYCPS)—as it grows from an inaugural cohort of 12 to potentially over 600 residents.

Why this research matters:
• Proven Success: 88% of residents report feeling effectively prepared for their first year of teaching, and 100% describe their working relationship with their mentors (Teacher Development Facilitators -TDFs) as excellent or good.
• Diversity First: The Touro GSE-specific residency cohort is 79% biracial or people of color, directly addressing the need for a diverse teacher workforce that reflects NYC’s students.
• Support & Accessibility: Residents receive a $30,000 annual stipend for completing 1,000 hours of clinical experience.
• Innovative Models: To keep costs low for students, the program utilizes zero-credit clinical seminars, making it one of the most accessible residency models in the city.

The Empire State Teacher Residency Program (ESTRP) provides aspiring teachers the chance to launch their careers in NYCPS priority districts while earning clinical experience and a stipend. Through strategic capacity building and data-driven improvements, Touro GSE is setting a national standard for high-quality, equity-focused teacher preparation.
