We're proud to announce that NYU has doubled our financial support for NYC's best green space by pledging $6 million over four years to its nonprofit steward, the Washington Square Park Conservancy. 💜

"It's a space that NYU students, faculty, families, and visitors all gather, and it's a really fantastic, dynamic public space,” said Arlene Peralta, the assistant vice president of community engagement at NYU who also serves on the board of directors of the Washington Square Park Conservancy. “We're just thrilled that we can continue that partnership, both with the Parks Department and the Conservancy, and work with them as stewards of this gift."

📣 Heard at 770 Broadway, the future home of NYU's new NYU Quantum Fabrication Facility, this week...

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani joined NYU President Linda Mills and other city and University leaders on Wednesday to announce the unprecedented public-private partnership that serves as a national model for how city governments can support emerging industries.

Backed by $284 million in public and private funding, including $29.2 million from the city, QFab is expected to reach more than 35,000 New Yorkers in its first 10 years of operations, including over 5,000 students through undergraduate and graduate school programming, summer bootcamps for NYCPS students, internship programs, and a new certificate program launched at select CUNY schools.

The city will receive three seats on the QFab Executive Advisory Board and 15% of proceeds from the intellectual property created using tools the city funded.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced the new NYU Quantum Technology Lab with Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su and New York City Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Anthony Shorris at 770 Broadway today. The lab is supported by $284 million in public and private funding.

The city will award $29.2 million for NYU to establish a cutting-edge Quantum Fabrication Facility (QFab), making NYC a quantum tech leader.

With an additional $255 million investment by NYU, QFab is expected to support more than 100 companies and reach 35,000 New Yorkers in its first 10 years of operation. "Thousands of CUNY students will train alongside our NYU students on cutting-edge equipment and build their research careers in one of the fastest growing scientific fields," said NYU President Linda Mills. "New York City-based start-ups and companies will have access to cutting-edge fabrication and materials found in few other cities. This is going to be the launchpad for an entire new industry with enormous opportunities for New Yorkers.”

When you've got to go, you've got to go ... but what if there's no where to go? 🚽 NYC's lack of public restrooms is no secret, and what can be done about it is now the task of students in NYU Wagner's Public Service Impact Lab course.

After two years of faculty development, the class is now well underway, at the same time that the New York City government is at work on a strategic plan to help solve the problem. Students in the Lab are analyzing and formulating recommendations around zoning, public safety, potential political concerns, state and local laws and regulations, and operational costs and responsibilities across city agencies.

And it's all being done in close consultation with more than 60 community partners, including Mamdani administration officials, local office holders, leaders of nonprofit and labor groups, and residents and advocates focused on the need for more restrooms.
