Sophia Cao’s senior thesis project “Cosmology” explores the tension between inheritance and self-construction within the multi-heritage experience. The installation draws from memories of sharing tangyuan and cold borscht with her brother in her grandparents’ apartments, where domestic spaces become sites of cultural transmission, despite language barriers and long distances.

Sophia Cao is a New York-based artist and designer whose practice centers on tactile making and material exploration. She examines the intersections of her American-born, Chinese-Lithuanian heritage to investigate memory, belonging, and the layered narratives that shape personal and inherited experience.

Edward Bauer’s Senior thesis project “The Call” is a live-still performance in response to many of the modeling castings he has worked, which will be performed by himself standing in as the subject next to every name who has come past him in these rooms, whose physical cards he has collected since 2023. It is a tribute and memorial to those he’s met but never seen again, but still considers having left a mark on who he is today.

Edward Is a multidisciplinary artist. He’s an illustrator, a photographer, a writer, sewer, gardener, painter, and home-chef, among many other things. He spends most of his time now in his last months in and around the theatre department at Eugene Lang or the The New School at large, or could be found in a movie theatre, or in any of the public libraries around the city.

Sofia Antebi’s senior thesis project “SofAI” seeks to reclaim the words “generative” and “agency” back towards human contexts through activities where participants act as part of a speculative machine learning system. This project provides alternative ways of understanding labeling, text prediction, image generation, and user profiling through analog and embodied activities.

Sofia Antebi designs experiences that examine and challenge our relationship with technology. Growing up in silicon valley has influenced her approaches to human interaction, relationships, and social contexts, which are expressed through digital design, print media, and events that feel like social experiments.

Anna Emberson’s Senior thesis project “909 Glenhaven Drive” honors the spirit of her grandparent’s house, which was destroyed in the Pacific Palisades fire last January. Although we are unable to return to the places we once inhabited, they remain a part of us. The duality of loss, which divides life into “before” and “after,” is explored through a synthesis of materials that survived yet were altered by the fire with recreated heirlooms that have been abstracted due to memory reconsolidation.

Anna Emberson (@310.anna ) is an interdisciplinary artist and designer born in Los Angeles, whose work centers on the defining people, places, and experiences of her life, expressed through vibrant and decorative depictions.

Ekaterina Vardar’s Senior thesis project “Ornament” examines the social regulations and adornment for the women in the Ottoman Imperial Harem of the 16th-17th Centuries. She highlights fashion’s historic role in shaping and constraining women’s bodies, revealing how control can be embedded within aesthetics, intimacy, and the appearance of beauty. It is an experimental multimedia installation involving fabric manipulation to communicate this forced decoration of the female figure, accompanied by video and an artist book.

Ekaterina Vardar is an interdisciplinary designer from Turkey. Drawing from historical research, her practice investigates the relationships between fashion and social governance of the body, translating historical conditions into contemporary visual forms.

Practicando Soñando

Practicando Sonañdo (Practicing Dreaming) is an educational mixed-media web series born out of youth workshops that imagine how we can collectively envision alternative futures. Each episode partners with a youth organization and a guest teaching artist, focusing on one of three areas of exploration: political education (movement history), social/emotional learning, and artistic practices. Rooted in radical pedagogies, intergenerational knowledge creation, and world building, the episodes are materialized through built sets, mixed-media animation, and puppetry.

Studio Clean-Out schedule for next week!
exchange would appreciate your support to help us significantly reduce the volume of material waste sent to landfills each semester. Our goal this year is to reduce the waste in these dumpsters by at least half compared to last year.

To achieve this, we are asking for your assistance in guiding students to the Material Exchange before they discard any usable items. We will be setting up multiple donation zones across campus to make the process efficient . By encouraging faculty to direct their students to these zones first, we can reclaim valuable supplies and ensure they remain available to the student body at zero cost.
