🌎💻 This summer, we welcomed 18 students from the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) to St. John's University for Smart Defenses: AI-Powered Cybersecurity for a Connected World, a two-week summer program offered through CCPS.

Students explored cybersecurity through hands-on learning with CCPS faculty, engaged with industry leaders from organizations including Barclays Bank and Protiviti, and gained insights from cybersecurity professionals working across healthcare, technology, and cyber recovery.

Beyond the classroom, students experienced New York City through cultural activities—including a Yankees game! ⚾

We look forward to growing this international partnership and welcoming even more students from around the world in the years ahead.

🤖🔬 AI meets biomedical research at St. John’s University!

The Bukhari Lab in the Lesley H. and William L. Collins College of Professional Studies has been awarded $562,000 from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to advance research exploring how artificial intelligence can help identify new uses for existing medicines to treat serious respiratory diseases.

Through RESPOND: Repurposing Drugs for Respiratory Disorders Using a Hybrid Neuro-Symbolic AI Approach, Dr. Syed Ahmad Chan Bukhari and his team will combine AI, machine learning, and biomedical knowledge to help researchers better understand potential drug-disease connections—and, importantly, the scientific evidence behind them.

The three-year project will also provide St. John’s undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on experience at the intersection of AI, computer science, pharmacy, and biomedical research. 🧠💊

This NIH award underscores the power of interdisciplinary research and St. John’s commitment to using innovation and technology to address complex health-care challenges.

👏 Congratulations to Dr. Bukhari and the Bukhari Lab!

🚨 Turning research into real-world impact.

This summer, students in St. John’s University’s Investigative Research and Innovative Scholars (IRIS) Program presented original research to leadership and personnel from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), exploring how illicit drugs—including fentanyl—are marketed through social media.

Working alongside faculty mentor Dr. David Byrne, the students analyzed hundreds of publicly available social media posts, identified investigative indicators, and developed recommendations to support intelligence analysis and law enforcement investigations.

The presentation sparked meaningful discussions with DEA professionals, leading to an invitation for the team to present an expanded briefing to DEA leadership and opening the door for future collaboration.

At St. John’s learning extends far beyond the classroom. Through opportunities like IRIS, students gain hands-on experience tackling real-world public safety challenges while preparing for impactful careers in criminal justice, intelligence, homeland security, and forensic science.

👏 Congratulations to our students and faculty on this outstanding achievement!

🇫🇷✨ What started as a trip to attend the Paris Conference on AI & Digital Ethics became so much more.
From exploring global perspectives on AI ethics and visiting CESI Engineering School to discovering hidden views of the Eiffel Tower, wandering the Louvre, and building lifelong friendships, this graduate study abroad experience proved that some of the biggest lessons happen outside the classroom.
Read how one CCPS graduate student found new perspectives on technology, culture, and themselves while studying abroad in Paris.
