It was good to be back at the Hall for the annual summer reunion dinner, complete with fireworks courtesy of the nearby Magdalen Ball. Front Quad looked familiar the next morning.

On June 28, another successful pop up Teddy Hall drinks. This one brought together some of the Hall community in Toronto. Pictured here: John Milloy, Akaash Maharaj, Richard Moon, Nicholas Rogers, Bashir Ahmad and Maeve Quaid.

Watch this space for pop-ups later this year in Boston, NYC and Atlanta. And contact the Hall Development office to find out how to assemble Aularians in your area.

The North American "Teddy Hall pop-up drinks" continue. Jake White, while visiting, asked the development office whether there were other Aularians in NYC. A small group of convivial Aularians was promptly convened the next day, in midtown Manhattan, to welcome him to town. Pictured right to left Matt Jacobs (2013), Jake White (2016), Bob Gaffey (1975), Tim Chen (2014) and Ted Haxby (son of Adrian Haxby, 1977).

You can have a Hall pop-up to meet Aularians near you, too. Ask the Development and Alumni Relations Office how.

Dr Bernard Bewlay (1980, Metallurgy & Science of Mater), Chief Scientist for Materials Systems and Services Technologies at General Electric (GE), was recently recognised by the company for his 150th patent issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in a recent ceremony in New York.

This prolific achievement places Bernard among the very elite in the history of GE innovators.

In the company’s 120-year existence, only a few dozen GE employees have achieved this momentous patent milestone, including notable inventors Ernst Alexanderson, Charles Steinmetz, and Thomas Edison, the founder of GE.

Bernard’s innovations are in a broad range of technologies for aircraft engines, power generation gas turbines, and medical imaging devices.

He is also the recipient of the 2018 Coolidge Award, the highest honour awarded to a scientist within GE. Furthermore, Bernard is a Fellow of ASM International and a member of the Materials Research Society, TMS, and the Institute of Materials.

The Hall congratulates Bernard on this achievement.

Busy year-end for North American Aularians. Drinks receptions in Toronto (12/5), New York City (12/7) and the annual New York Dinner at the wonderful Links club (12/9) brought nearly a hundred of us together overall. Hallmarks North America, our committee devoted to building a closer Hall community in North America, was happy to report that Aularians here had donated a bit over $2,000,000 to the Hallmarks Campaign in 2022. If you are interested in joining us in 2023, contact [email protected].

I am pleased to remind you that the 37th Annual St Edmund Hall New York Dinner is set for December 9, 2022 , 6:30 PM, at the Links Club, 36 East 62nd Street, New York, New York.

The Principal, Baroness (Kathy) Willis will be traveling to New York, along with some others from SEH and she will bring us up to date on the state of the Hall.
