MAIRE ANTOINETTE

by David Adjmi
Directed by Alexis Kulani Woodard

Marie Antoinette is a wildly theatrical, darkly comic portrait of a queen trapped inside a crumbling monarchy. As revolution brews outside the palace walls, Marie Antoinette clings to luxury, performance, and fantasy while the world around her spirals toward collapse. Blending modern language, biting satire, and punk sensibility, David Adjmi reimagines the infamous monarch as both absurd spectacle and deeply human figure in a provocative exploration of power, celebrity, excess, and denial.

MEASURE FOR MEASURE

by William Shakespeare

An intellectual and political thriller that grapples with moral hypocrisy and abuse of power. What follows is a dangerous battle between morality and desire, as Shakespeare exposes the hypocrisy lurking beneath the surface of power.

Lastly in our Student Summer Work Spotlight: Junior Jyonnah Ware got the opportunity to be in the Off Broadway show Forget I Said Anything written and directed by Samantha Rose Roberts.

Here’s what she had to say about the experience:
“New work is always exciting, especially when it’s a new musical! Working with our cast to bring this music to life was so fun because we all got a chance to rejuvenate this music and make it our own. It was such a thrill doing this show with this talented cast and to create this world”

Congrats Jyonnah! Fordham Theatre is so proud of all the students from our program that got involved this summer. If you want to be involved with these students or the program itself, check out our linktree and sign up for our Mainstage Auditons. Auditions are next week and the form is due Monday!

SWEAT
by Lynn Nottage
Directed by K. Lorrel Manning

Opening our season, legendary writer and two-time Pulitzer winner, Lynn Nottage’s Sweat, a gripping, sobering portrait of the unraveling of the American dream. Set in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2008, the play follows a tight-knit group of factory workers whose lives are upended as layoffs, economic anxiety, and rising tensions begin to fracture their community. Inspired by Nottage’s years of interviews with residents of Reading, one of America’s hardest-hit post-industrial cities, this Tony-nominated drama captures the anger, loyalty, humor, and heartbreak of people fighting to hold onto dignity in a system leaving them behind.
