The “Open House” is an opportunity for your students to visit the schools and gain an insider’s perspective on medical education and the admissions process. While visiting, students will have the opportunity to meet current medical students, faculty, and key administrators and take an in-depth look at life as a medical student.

SUNY Downstate to Hold Annual University Hospital of Brooklyn Health Fair May 17

SUNY Downstate Medical Center’s University Hospital of Brooklyn will hold its 28th annual community health fair at its Central Brooklyn location in East Flatbush, Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The fair is in recognition of National Hospital Week, whose theme this year is "Compassion, Innovation, Dedication: The Commitment Continues.†The event will take place in front of the hospital, at 445 Lenox Road, between E. 35th and E. 37th Streets.

National Hospital Week celebrates the men and women who, day in and day out, remain committed to improving the health of their communities through compassionate care, constant innovation, and unwavering, unmatched dedication.
This year’s health fair will feature free health information and screenings – asthma, blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, prostate, breast exam, pap test, colon cancer test, hearing test, vision and glaucoma screening, stroke screening, HIV testing, height and weight measurements, and more – as well as free refreshments, giveaways, and raffle gifts. There will be entertainment for people of all ages, including face painting, tap dancers, clowns, a DJ, pony rides, fitness and exercise demonstrations, and music. Apply for the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program

Deadline is March 1, 2014.

Free room and board AND a $600 stipend.

12 sites are located nationally.

Academic enrichment in the basic sciences and quantitative topics
Learning-Skills Development-including study skills and methods of individual and group learning
Clinical exposure through small-group clinical rotations and full-group clinician seminars. This is limited to 5% of program time for all the sites
Career development, including the exploration of the medical and dental careers, other health professions and an individualized education plan to identify other appropriate enrichment activities
