New York City continues to grapple with a youth mental health crisis. In December 2025, a report from NYC Comptroller Brad Lander sounded the alarm: nearly 40% of NYC high school students reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness.
As schools work to address these challenges, the need for trained mental health professionals has never been greater.
The Fordham GSS/NYC Public Schools Collaborative Fellowship serves as a pipeline of highly trained professionals for NYC schools.
For the third year in a row, GSS welcomed a cohort of over 40 students to the Collaborative, all of whom will be matched with schools based on grade-level interest, commuting distance, and specific skills. Throughout their placements, they will work directly with students and become integral members of their school communities, building the skills and professional connections needed to pursue careers in school social work after graduation.
We were so excited to hold an orientation for them at our Lincoln Center campus, with a special visit from Superintendent Dr. Noah Angeles.
We can’t wait to watch them (and the students attending NYC public schools) thrive!
