Established in 1981, the Center for Worker Education has been providing high-quality college education to working adults in New York City and the surrounding regions. We offer a range of course delivery methods, including In-Person, Hybrid Synchronous, Online Hybrid Synchronous, Hybrid Asynchronous, Online Mix, Hyflex, and Online Asynchronous formats, enabling our students to complete their education and achieve true social mobility.

After coming to New York from Brazil to learn English, Eliane Santos found a new path toward a lifelong dream: becoming a teacher. At 37, she discovered CCNY CWE, where supportive professors helped her build the knowledge, confidence, and experience she needed to begin her career in education.

Through hands-on learning, internships, and classroom experience, CWE prepared her to become an educator and continue growing professionally. Today, her journey has come full circle as she returns to CWE as a professor, helping future educators develop the same confidence and skills that CWE helped her discover.

Her story is a reminder to never give up on your dreams. No matter where or when you begin, CWE can help you take the next step toward your future.

EDCE 32304 | Language and Literacy I
Introduction to the teaching of reading as a language thinking process within a development sequence. Methods and materials of instruction applicable to an integrated curriculum. Offered in the Fall annually. 15 hours fieldwork required. 4 hrs.; 4 crs.
