Wildfires are an annual occurrence and battle during the hot summer months in Greece. Artemis Hellenic Club at Hunter College is supporting The Hellenic Initiative, which is a non-profit organization that is raising money to help repair the damages caused and assist those who have been displaced from their homes. In previous years, funds were raised to offer a fire-fighting truck to the Greek Fire Service and to purchase much needed trash bins for the cities of Rafina and Mati. The Hellenic Initiative provides crisis relief and works to mobilize the Greek diaspora. Their goal is to aid in sustainable economic recovery for the Greek people.
