Job Title: Program Assistant
Requirements: This position is only open to enrolled TC students. Position begins January 4- April 26.
Primary Responsibilities:
▪ Lead the planning and organizing of online events including logistics, budget management, and publicizing events to the TC, Columbia, and broader NYC community
▪ Manage the CAE email address and listserv
▪ Coordinate and assist in the writing and production of online blogs
▪ Liaise with other African-interest groups at TC (such as the African Studies Working Group) and Columbia University (such as the Institute for African Studies at Columbia University)
▪ Assist with managing and updating the CAE website and social media (such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter)
▪ Assist in grant and budget development as well as with research on potential funders and funding opportunities
▪ Work with the Program Coordinator and one or more potential interns to realize the center’s objectives
▪ Other duties as assigned by the Center Director
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
▪ Direct knowledge and experience of educational issues in African and the African Diaspora
▪ Strong research, writing, and editing skills
▪ Experience with event planning, managing, and coordinating programs, and with budgets
▪ Experience with publicity and/or marketing
▪ Experience managing website and social networking sites
▪ Experience using Microsoft Publisher
▪ Self-directed, problem-solver, interest in proposing new ideas and projects, ability to work independently and in teams
