Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, The Graduate Center, CUNY

Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, The Graduate Center, CUNY The Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society is committed to strengthening civil society through education, research, and leadership training.

The Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (CPCS) ran its first International Fellows Program (IFP) in 1989. Since that time it has trained 218 Fellows from 66 countries and territories around the globe. Read "Spreading the Seeds of Community Giving" to learn about the program's impact and how Fellows are deepening and expanding philanthropy around the world. The current focus of the IFP is on c

ommunity foundations and strengthening local cultures of giving. The program also explores (to greater or lesser extent, depending on funding and research interests) a range of topics and current issues in the field and of relevance to participating scholar-practitioners and their home regions. The IFP emphasizes learning about the NGO/NPO sectors in comparative perspective by engaging Fellows through readings, weekly seminars, networking opportunities and site visits. Fellows are introduced to the international literature on philanthropy and nonprofits, and prepare a research or position paper with recommendations for their institutions, countries and/or regions.
