A new study from Columbia Mailman and NYU found that people who were overweight or obese at the time of a dementia diagnosis had a lower risk of death than those in the normal-weight range.

The findings suggest weight status may provide useful information about survival and underscore the importance of nutrition in dementia.

Those who are overweight or obese when they are diagnosed with dementia are likely to live longer.

Wildfire exposure is often thought of primarily in terms of smoke. But when an entire community burns, the exposure environment can be much more complicated.

A new study involving Columbia Mailman researchers found elevated levels of several metals among ~1,400 Maui adults after the 2023 wildfires. Higher combined metal levels were associated with measures of reduced lung function.

The health consequences of catastrophic wildfires may extend far beyond the period when flames are extinguished and smoke disappears.

With the increased frequency and duration of mobile phone use, a new systematic review examines existing research on mobile phone use during pregnancy and fetal outcomes.

While some studies found no significant associations, most studies in the review associated prolonged or intensive mobile phone use with a range of adverse outcomes, particularly cardiovascular abnormalities and shorter gestational duration.

Evidence suggests possible biological mechanisms through which mobile phone use could contribute to adverse pregnancy outcomes.
