Hi All,

In an effort to continue the conversation about the American justice system and how it may be reformed, the Coalition for Social Justice, the American Constitution Society and the Criminal Law Society have invited special guest speaker, Ms. Cathleen Price to present on mass incarceration and the death penalty in America.

Ms. Price is a 1996 graduate of Harvard Law School who is currently a Senior Cooperating Attorney at the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), under the leadership of Mr. Brian Stevenson. At EJI Ms. Price litigates on behalf of death-sentenced prisoners, advocates before legislators and other policymakers, and serves as faculty at training seminars on the death penalty and related topics. Additionally, Ms. Price is a professor at Columbia University, where she teaches on the subjects of race, poverty, and the American criminal justice system.

Please join us tomorrow, Wednesday, November 18 at 5:30 PM in The Mattone Family Atrium to learn, listen and discuss with Ms. Price. Following the discussion and Q&A, food will be served!

Hi All,

ACS's event is TONIGHT at 5:30! Kermit Roosevelt, a professor of constitutional law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, has recently published a sophisticated legal thriller entitled "Allegiance: A Novel," which plunges readers into the debate within the US government surrounding the imprisonment of thousands of Japanese-Americans during World War II. In this novel, Professor Roosevelt combines the momentum of a top-notch legal thriller with a thoughtful examination of one of the worst civil rights violations in US history. Professor Roosevelt will speak about his novel and this period in legal history, as well how the WWII internment relates to today’s issues, including national security generally, Guantanamo, and torture specifically, and empathy as a constitutional value. There will be a Q&A session, and Prof. Roosevelt will be selling copies of his book at a discount as well as signing them.

Some interesting notes: Professor Roosevelt is the great-great-grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt, and the fifth cousin four-times removed of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His father played a critical role in the 1953 CIA coup in Iran.

This event starts at 5:30 and will be held in the atrium, not the Moot Court Room. There will be food! I hope to see you there.
