For our next Incoming Student Spotlight, please give a warm welcome to Alia!

📚 Department/Program: Economics

Originally from Dubai, Alia Wold Ghamail graduated from the University of Warwick in the UK with a BSc (Hons) in Economics, where her interests developed around macroeconomics, international finance, and sustainable economic development. Outside the classroom, Alia served as President of both the International Foundation Programme Society and Warwick Dubai Society, experiences that shaped her interest in leadership and building communities.

Before joining NYU, Alia worked in Financial Markets within the Sales and Trading desk at Standard Chartered Bank, covering macro products including FX, money markets, commodities, and structured derivatives, with a coverage on institutional clients across the MENAP and Turkey regions.

Her academic interests sit at the intersection of macroeconomics and financial markets, particularly monetary policy, international economics, and how macroeconomic developments translate into market outcomes. Alia's undergraduate dissertation explored how sustainable finance can contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals in Africa.

At NYU, Alia is not just looking to deepen my understanding of economics — she's looking to bring what she learn back home. Alia hope to build on my experiences in financial markets and economics to contribute to the UAE’s evolving economic landscape, particularly in areas of economic policy, financial development, and the country’s transition toward a more diversified, knowledge-driven economy.

On Wednesday, October 7th, NYU's Campus Safety Department will be hosting a free hands-on self defense class from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Paulson Center (Wrestling Room)! The course will feature one-on-one self-defense coaching with three of our trained professionals with the aim of helping attendees feel confident and self-assured in their ability to protect themselves in the real world 💥

Happy October from The Master's College 🍂 For this week's Incoming Student Spotlight, we're showcasing Yuliia!

Yuliia (she/her) is a theatre artist and curator from Ukraine. She started my career working as an actress on theatre projects and has since expanded her expertise into theatre curation. The year before she came to NYU, Yuliia was developing an educational program at the Kyiv National Young Theatre, producing GALA by French choreographer Jérôme Bel, and directing the performance Ophelia and Polonius Meet in the Summerhouse.

Together with her theatre cohort, Yuliia has been running an informal theatre group called Shadow Room, where she explores what theatre could be in a very informal way. The group has created performances based on our own dramaturgy, produced conceptual performative parties, explored the potential of light-projection street shows, and even presented a stage reading of intercepted conversations of corrupt officials.

Currently, Yuliia is developing a publishing house called Nonexistheatre, which will focus on translating and publishing theatre and performance theory in Ukrainian. Because there is a huge lack of these texts in this cultural and educational space, this project is her main practical interest now.

Now working as the Program Administrator for NYU’s College of Arts and Science First Year Experience, Noah states that Pursuing a Master’s Degree in a humanities field (East Asian Studies) has allowed him to keep people centered in the work that he does in higher education. With emerging technologies like AI continuing to proliferate, Noah believes that it is more important than ever to apply a critical lens to the world around him and think about how those technologies can impact both humans and the planet we share.

As President of the College of Arts & Science Alumni Association, Noah uses lessons from his CAS and GSAS education to inform inclusive decision-making and set a direction for the Association that will benefit alumni and current students on a daily basis.

NYU Celebrates Service 2026 is a university-wide, week-long initiative taking place September 28–October 3. Throughout the week, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners come together through service and volunteerism, supporting nonprofits and community organizations in New York City and beyond 🍎

From community clean-ups to food preparation and other hands-on projects, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners will have opportunities to give back, make a meaningful impact, and connect with the communities we serve 💜

For our latest incoming student spotlight, we are pleased to introduce you to Mileth!

📚 Department/Program: Creative Writing in Spanish

Mileth Zamora (she/her) is a Mexican writer and poet. She holds a degree in International Business from Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City, and furthered her writing education at The School of The New York Times. Her first poetry collection, "El reflejo del lago," was published by Valparaíso Ediciones. Mileth has led poetry and creative writing workshops and given talks at secondary schools in Mexico on self-love and personal growth. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing in Spanish at NYU, where she seeks to deepen her poetic practice while exploring narrative and expanding her approach to storytelling.

Next up in our Incoming Student Spotlight Series, we have Yixuan!

📚 Department/Program: XE | Experimental Humanities and Social Engagement

Yixuan is a researcher and emerging curator based between New York and Beijing, working across visual culture, contemporary art, and environmental humanities.

He graduated from Vassar College with a B.A. in Media Studies and Studio Art, where his senior thesis explored the anthropology of lines and its theoretical implications across cultures.

Yixuan is currently curating “Strata of Relations,” an exhibition bringing together artistic practices that engage with localities and geographies across Asia and beyond. He is also the founder of CHANG Assembly, an interdisciplinary art initiative and studio complex in Beijing.
