Elizabeth Barlow Rogers is the woman who helped save Central Park. Back in the 1970s, the park was in bad shape—run-down, dirty, and not very safe. Rogers, a landscape designer and city planner, saw its potential and stepped in to help.

In 1979, she became the first Central Park Administrator and soon helped start the Central Park Conservancy, a nonprofit that raised money and brought in experts to clean up and restore the park. Thanks to her vision and leadership, Central Park was transformed into the beautiful, welcoming space New Yorkers love today.

We honored her with our Gold Medal in 2018.

National Institute of Social Sciences Gold Medal Spotlight ⭐

Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States, ruled the Roaring Twenties from 1923 to 1929. He was well-loved largely due to his embodiment of the era’s spirit of prosperity and optimism.

Coolidge signed legislation granting full citizenship to Native Americans, a significant step in the ongoing struggle for rights and recognition. His administration also tackled pressing issues like immigration and civil rights, enriching the dialogues in sociology and political science about race, identity, and what it means to be American in a dynamic era.

Bryan Stevenson’s powerful words remind us that the true measure of justice lies in how we treat the most vulnerable. This aligns with the core principles of social sciences, which seek to understand and address societal inequalities. True progress comes from empathy, fairness, and inclusivity.
