Publicolor, a youth development organization that empowers middle and high school students in New York City to succeed in school and prepare for their careers through a multi-year, project-based continuum of programs, is recruiting volunteers for its Academic Coaching program.

Academic Coaches are paired with Publicolor students in grades 6–12 for weekly, remote sessions designed to help students achieve their academic goals. Publicolor is looking to grow its community of Academic Coaches and welcomes volunteers interested in tutoring, mentoring, education, or community service.

The commitment is flexible and entirely virtual via Zoom. Volunteers can participate for as little as one hour per week, from 4:30–5:30 PM EST, with the option to volunteer additional hours if desired. Coaches can support students in the subjects they feel most comfortable teaching, including math, English, science, history, and more.

Publicolor is also happy to document volunteer or service hours and provide letters of recommendation for coaches upon request.

The School of Education is hosting two virtual Educating All Students (EAS) workshops this month on Saturday, October 17, and Saturday, October 24, from 10 AM to 1 PM.

EAS is a three-hour workshop designed for all teacher candidates. Each workshop includes both independent and guided practice, and all registrants will receive a study guide.

The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) Leap to Teacher Program is offering a free 6-week test preparation workshop for CUNY students interested in becoming paraprofessionals or teaching assistants in New York City public schools.

Priority consideration will be given to education majors.

In addition, participants may receive a nomination to begin working as substitute paraprofessionals after completing the required workshops and successfully passing the exam.

This program is intended for currently enrolled CUNY students who are pursuing paraprofessional or teaching assistant certification.

A substitute paraprofessional can earn $195 per day while gaining valuable hands-on experience working in NYC public schools.

The application deadline is THIS FRIDAY, October 2!
