On May 29, we had the privilege of celebrating academic excellence and leadership at the Baruch College Zicklin School of Business 🎓 🎉

We proudly honored our outstanding undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral scholars during their induction into the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma, Sigma Iota Epsilon, and Sigma Nu Tau honor societies.

We were also honored to welcome John Hui (BBA ’02), Baruch College Fund Trustee, serial entrepreneur, and a 2026 Crain’s Notable Leader in Health Care, as our special guest speaker. Drawing on more than 23 years of leadership and innovation experience, John shared valuable insights that inspired our newest inductees as they embark on the next chapter of their academic and professional journeys.

Congratulations to all of our inductees on this well-deserved achievement. Your dedication, scholarship, and commitment to excellence exemplify the very best of the Baruch community.

Chipotle founder and former CEO Steve Ells will be the keynote speaker at Baruch College’s 2026 Commencement, addressing more than 20,000 attendees—including over 5,500 members of the Class of 2026 on Monday, June 1 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Ells will also be awarded the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters recognizing his transformational impact on the global food industry, commitment to innovation and ethical business practices, and ability to inspire future generations of leaders values that embody the historical and continuing mission of Baruch College and The City University of New York.

Ells built Chipotle Mexican Grill into a $40 billion company and created an entirely new restaurant category. As the company’s founder, he turned a single burrito shop into a global brand and invented the fast-casual dining model along the way. He proved that fast food could be made with real ingredients and actual cooking technique—a radical idea in 1993.

When Baruch College Zicklin School of Business alumna Jai Kiah (BBA ’25) graduated last spring, she never imagined her next chapter would lead to entrepreneurship in the culinary world. Originally a Computer Information Systems (CIS) major, Jai has since turned her passion for food into a growing business: Taste City.

Alongside its affiliate, Karri & Co. Bakery—named after her three-year-old son—Jai’s home-based venture offers a menu full of comfort food favorites, including chicken Alfredo, mac & cheese, peach cobbler, hibachi-grilled shrimp, and what many call “Harlem’s best” cheesecake. Signature drinks like Lemon Blvd. and Sugar Hill Tea add even more flavor to the experience.

At a recent Lawrence N. Field Center event celebrating Baruch entrepreneurs, Jai showcased her business by sharing samples of her flavored shortcakes and cheesecakes while connecting with attendees and speaking with Zicklin News.

From CIS student to culinary entrepreneur, Jai’s journey is a reminder that success can come from unexpected paths.
