A.I.R. GALLERY

Please join us on September 28 at 6:30pm for the 2023–2024 A.I.R. Fellowship Welcome Event. This year’s fellows are Photography at The City College of New York CUNY alum & current CLT Roberta Dorsett, Mimi Bai, Allison Halter, Xinyi Liu, Funto Omojola, and Denisse Griselda Reyes.

The fellows will give short presentations about their work, followed by an hour-long reception. Light refreshments will be provided.

Apply En Foco Photography Fellowship 2024

The Fellowship initiative affirms En Foco’s ongoing commitment to the financial support of artists of color, and serves to inform exhibition organizers and curators of an existing pool of quality under recognized artists.

The 9th Annual En Foco Photography Fellowship is designed to support photographers of color who demonstrate the highest quality of work as determined by a photography panel of peers and industry professionals. The Photography Fellowship Program will:
award 10 Fellowships at $1,500 per, include Fellows in a 2024 Group Exhibition, feature the Fellows in the 2024 Nueva Luz publication printed and online editions, provide Professional Development and Networking opportunities.

En Foco is highly regarded for its leadership in support of photographers of color and for its advocacy role in addressing the issues related to cultural equity and access. Due to this award, previous Fellows have had access to many opportunities beyond the fellowship.

The En Foco Photography Fellowship is designed to support photographers of color who demonstrate the highest quality of work as determined by a photography panel of peers and industry professionals.

DEADLINE: September 15
Monson Arts’ residency program supports emerging and established artists and writers by providing them time and space to devote to their creative practices. During each of our 2-week and 4-week programs throughout the year, a cohort of 5 artists and 5 writers are invited to immerse themselves in small town life at the edge of Maine’s North Woods and focus intensely on their work within a creative and inspiring environment. They receive a private studio, private bedroom in shared housing, all meals, and $1,000 stipend ($500 for 2-week programs). https://monsonarts.org/residencies/overview/

There is also a special photography residency: The Abbott Watts Residency for Photography offers access to the photography studio and darkroom of Todd Watts in nearby Blanchard, adjacent to the former home of Berenice Abbott. APPLICATION DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 1
Photographers local to the New York City area are currently invited to apply for admission to the MATTE Institute’s inaugural class of students. We will accept 6-12 students depending on the strength and quantity of applications. Visiting artists for the first semester include Farah Al Qasimi, Daniel Arnold, Elliott Jerome Brown Jr. and Rachel Stern. Guest critics will include Eve Lyons and Shala Miller. The semester also features a field trip to the late photographer Mary Ellen Mark’s SoHo studio. See link for more information and application:

PRAYER OF THE WANDERER is a short film program that explores the complex and multifaceted experiences of Arab American immigrants in their pursuit of identity within the context of living in the United States. By delving into their narratives, this event seeks to shed light on the richness and diversity of Arab American cultural heritage while confronting the challenges faced by individuals in navigating their dual identities. Through a carefully curated selection of films, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the Arab American community's varied contributions to society while inviting audiences to contemplate the universal themes of belonging, adaptation, and self-discovery.
