Alliance for the Promotion of Urdu Studies at NYU Urdu-wallay at New York University

We, the Urdu-wallay at New York University, are working to promote the Urdu language and the literary and social culture it is rooted in. Originating in South Asia, Urdu brought together people from many regions and continues to do so to this day and is now the national language of Pakistan. At NYU, we provide a platform for students at NYU who wish to establish or re-establish contact with the language of their heritage.

Fluent in Urdu? Can read and write with some degree of fluency? Are a Pakistani at NYU? Are an Indian Urduwallah at NYU? Would like to read and experience Urdu poetry? Delve into the beauty of works by Ghalib, Iqbal, Faiz, Kishwar Naheed, Fahmida Riaz? Read Manto, one of Urdu's greatest short story writers? Listen to ghazals, poetry recitations? Watch films you never knew existed and which will boggle your mind? Reconnect or simply connect with the culture of your homeland in ways you had never imagined? Have fun with Urdu literature? Then come and join us in Advanced Urdu II. It's a graduate course which can be repeated many times.

Attention Urdu-Wallahs at NYU:

Enhance your experience and knowledge of the Urdu Language by taking Elementary I if you cannot read and write, Intermediate I if you can read and write at a basic level, and Advanced Urdu I (Readings in Urdu Lit) if you can read and write reasonably well. You will not get an opportunity to advance your Urdu skills and knowledge after this, ever again in your life.
