Today is Verrazzano new student orientation. Right now a new generation of students is running around the Great Lawn, meeting the people they will be seeing in classes next week. Seems only right to celebrate the journey with some throwback to CSI Commencement in May!

Matthew Hale, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in music and a minor in dramatic arts. His capstone with Professor Carlos Delgado was on “Synthesizers: The Science and History of Technology in Music.” Matthew was a 6 year participant in The Opportunity Network, was a social media intern, and makes lots of music!
He wants to continue working as a stage hand at MetLife Stadium and creating music.
He graduated cm laude.

Emily Eisler-Grynsztajn, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in biology with a minor in psychology. She completed her capstone with Dr. Michelle Esposito on “Dietary Factory Impact on the Oral Microbiome.” She worked her way through school, and plans to apply to Physican Assistant Programs.
Her advice to students is to “get involved, volunteer, and choose fun VELAs to make new friends.”

Adriana D'Esposito, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in science, letters, and society with a concentration in early childhood education. She completed her capstone with Dr. Ken Gold on “Effects of Physical Activity Movement Breaks on Childhood Students.” Adriana volunteered with Project Hospitality, and the SI Catholic Worker Community Meals Program. In 2023 she was honors with a Women of Achievement Award through Staten Island Advance/SILive.
She is applying for graduate programs in Special Education.
She advises new students to “take advantage of all the help, guidance, and benefits the program has to offer.”
She graduated magna cm laude.

Natalie Czajka, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in biology with a concentration in ecology, evolution, and behavioral biology; and a minor in history. Natalie completed her capstone with Dr. Lisa Manne on “Movement Patterns of Sub-Adult Versus Adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls.” Natalie also did research with Freshkills Park on Diamondback Terrapin Conservation and on insect biodiversity. She volunteers with Protector of Pine Oak Woods, the Greenbelt Native Plant Center, and was the secretary of the Garden Club.
She is applying to graduate school in ecology and conservation biology.
Her advice for new Verrazzano students? “Participate in as many VELAs and volunteer opportunities as you can. You never what new experiences you may have or what new people you may meet.”

Don Jude Codipilly, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in biology with a concentration in ecology, evolution, and behavioral biology. He completed his capstone with Dr. Shaibal Mitra on “Spring Arrival Dates are Trending Early Among Migratory Birds.” Just has been a longtime employee at the Staten Island Zoo and has also interned at Freshkills Park.
He is looking at graduate schools in zoology and ecology.

She intends to go to graduate school to earn a master’s degree in nurse education.
Her advice to students? “Be yourself and chase all your dreams.”

Raneem Baalbaki, VZ Class of 2026, earned a BS degree in psychology with a minor in Critical Criminology and Social Justice. She completed her capstone with Dr. Florette Cohen on “The Effects of Existential Concerns on Subtle Manifestations, Prejudice, and Political Preference.”
She was a behavioral technician with Infinite Therapy Solutions, scribed for PROV 205 Psychological Services, and worked for Sawaeer Law Office.
She will be attending John Jay College in the fall to earn her Master’s in Criminal Justice.
