The Verrazano School is a selective four-year honors program that provides motivated and talented students with an exceptional baccalaureate experience at the College of Staten Island/CUNY. Students choose from the full range of majors offered at CSI and receive personalized assistance and guidance as they seek internships, pursue research opportunities, study abroad, and prepare for graduate studies and professional success. Verrazano students are connected to their local and global community through service and leadership and are empowered with lifelong intellectual curiosity and strong personal integrity. The Verrazano School provides a foundation on which students build their skills and talents, explore their interests, and create a positive, memorable, and valuable college experience.

Everyone tells you have to have experience to get the job. Christian Morales, Verrazzano Class of 2026, shares some advice on how to level up that experience to turn your internship into a job!

Gaining real-world experience is essential for building a successful career, as it helps individuals develop important skills like communication, time management, and problem-solving. Internships play a major role in this process by giving students the opportunity to explore different career paths, strengthen their resumes, and connect with professionals in their field. However, simply having experience isn’t enough—how you present yourself in those environments matters just as much. Demonstrating professionalism through clear communication, confidence, respect, and a willingness to learn can leave a lasting impression and set you apart from others. Together, experience, internships, and professional behavior create a strong foundation for future success.

Cody Smith, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in business management with a minor in business finance. He completed his captone with Dr. Lauren Mullens on “Human Resources Practices and Workplace Behavior/Ethics.”
While a student, Cody worked for the Staten Island Skating Pavilion.
His advice to new students? “Attend events such as career fairs and the yearly Verrazano pizza party as well as any others that catch your interest.”
Cody’s goal is to manage a retail store.

Bryan Li, VZ Class of 2026, earned double majored in accounting and business management, and earned a minor in finance. ...

Bryan Li, VZ Class of 2026, earned double majored in accounting and business management, and earned a minor in finance. He completed his capstone with Dr. Banu Aslanertik on “Ethics, Fraud, and Financial Reporting: Analyzing Tax Behavior and Scandals.”
While a student, Bryan worked as a staff accountant and tax prepared for Angus Wong, CPA. He also participated in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program through Grown Brooklyn and was a judge for the Youth Business Summit Competition with Virtual Enterprises Internationals.
His advice to new students? ”Seize any opportunity! Take advantage of any of the Double VELAs offered, get to see and experience new things/new places. Have any questions? You guys have first-class, best in the game advisors. I couldn’t have asked for better advisors. Spend time in the VZ lounge and take advantage of all the benefits of being a VZ student.”
He is currently completed course work, and studying for, CPA licensure.
He graduated cm laude.

Maiyadah Kased, VZ Class of 2026, earned a degree in science, letters and society with a concentration in childhood education. She completed her capstone with Dr. mArta Cabral on “Al-Noor School College Readiness and Career Exposure Program.”
While a student, Maiyadah works for the All Noor School in public relations and student engagement, re-opened a youth fitness and sports program, and was the website and social media manager for Sweets Candy Wholesale.
Her goal is to teach and continue to develop her adminsitrative skills with the aim of eventually becoming a principal.
She graduated cm laude.
