APPLY TO THE 2026 SCHOOL OF ART STUDENT EXHIBITION!

๐Ÿ”— Link in bio to apply!

Prattโ€™s School of Art Dean Jorge Oliver is pleased to invite all School of Art students to submit their work for consideration to be included in a group exhibition curated by Pratt alum Rachel Vera Steinberg (BFA Fine Arts, Drawing โ€˜08) and artist and writer Avram Finkelstein. The exhibition will take place in August and September 2026 in Steuben Gallery, in partnership with Prattโ€™s Department of Exhibitions and in collaboration with the Department of Fine Arts, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Alumni Relations, the Learning Access Center, and Pratt Presents.

The 2026 School of Art annual student show invites reflection on disability, access, and the diverse ways people relate to their minds and bodies. Submissions are open to all Pratt School of Art students, including undergraduates, graduate students, and the Class of 2026. The exhibition will feature work engaging with themes of access, disability, and neurodiversity, including visible and invisible disabilities, mental health, chronic illness, sensory, cognitive, emotional, and mobility experiences, and conditions shaped by environment and context. You are not required to label or disclose any diagnosis or identity to submit to this exhibition.

We hope you will consider applying and look forward to creating a platform for expansive dialogue between various experiences and perspectives within the Pratt community. The exhibition is an excellent opportunity for you to showcase your work and build a relationship with professional curators and artists in the context of a group exhibition.

We look forward to seeing your work! Thank you for applying!

The Dean of the School of Art is pleased to share that artist and advocate Viva Ruiz will present a workshop, EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING, next Tuesday Sept. 23 from 10 a.m.-noon, engaging students on the topic of reproductive justice and bodily autonomy through a q***r lens. Ruizโ€™s collaborative practice expands across performance, film, writing, and music. This workshop will be a participatory exercise in drawing lines to each other and exploring how bodily autonomy is a place we can all meet, celebrating agency and the ways that art can generate joyous action. EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING will begin as a talk show performance with Hushpuppy (MFA Fine Arts, Printmaking โ€˜26), followed by a performance facilitation by Ruiz culminating in an open invitation to participate in a group dance performance on the Quad.ย

Register through link in bio!

In EVERYTHING IS EVERYTHING, we will see how utilizing the framework of reproductive justice IS q***r liberation, racial liberation, class liberation, a place to get activated as if it ALL is happening to us, because it IS ALL happening to us. How can we get people motivated and engaged? How can we get people to listen, when we have been conditioned to believe in borders that fracture our solidarity? You are invited to this unique opportunity to experience how โ€œartโ€ can be alive, sparking conversation, fighting disinformation, strengthening our coalitions, creating safety and influencing public policy.

Date and time: September 23, 10 a.m.-noon, 2025.

Location: Alumni Reading Room, Library, 3rd Floor. Participants will the. move outdoors to the Quad area for a performance finale.

Please share any accessibility needs you might have so that we can support your participation.

The Dean of the School of Art is thrilled to share that the incredible singer, composer and performance artist, will present a vocalization workshop, ๐’ฎ๐‘œ๐“ƒ๐‘”, tomorrow, Sept. 3 on Prattโ€™s Brooklyn Campus. This participatory performance will take place on the occasion of the 2025 School of Art exhibition Exquisite Relations, currently on view at Schafler Gallery through September 27, and was conceived by the faculty advisor to this yearโ€™s show Please see workshop details below and we hope to see you tomorrow for what promises to be a joyful community chorus to kick start this fall semester!

Register through link in bio!

๐’ฎ๐‘œ๐“ƒ๐‘” is a participatory vocal performance that explores presence as the root of vocalization. Singer Dorian Wood invites all types of voices, regardless of singing skill, to engage in a series of guided exercises and prompts, culminating in a roaming sonic infiltration on the campus of Pratt. Wood poses the following: as we each navigate ways to stay connected to our communities in times of oppression and uncertainty, feelings of discouragement may arise and thus impact the importance of โ€œshowing upโ€. But when we do, how do we each make ourselves known? What can our respective voices do when we are intentional in body and heart? Can a whisper, a sigh or a delicate hum reverberate as a thunderclap?

Date: September 3, 2025

Location: Meet at the Rose Garden, behind the library at 2 p.m. Participants will make a path together through the Quad area, stopping at the Main Building Courtyard and finally at the Student Union.

Time: 2 p.m.โ€“5 p.m.

Accessibility: Please share any accessibility needs you might have so that we can support your participation. Note that this workshop will begin outdoors and then move indoors.

This exhibition showcases the work of 16 students and recent alumni whose work exists within and explores the q***r aesthetic including the le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r, questioning, non-binary, pansexual, two-spirit, intersex (LGBTQIA+) experience. In selecting work for this yearโ€™s exhibition, and with the guidance of faculty supervisor, Associate Professor of Sculpture and Integrated Practices in Fine Arts, the curators were inspired by the work of French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and American author and theorist bell hooks to frame their visionโ€”how q***r identity is an unfurling site of becoming that invents and creates its own space to thrive.
