Middle College National Consortium MCNC partners with NCREST and KPI to analyze student performance and teacher efficacy, and creates and captures knowledge emerging from best practices.

We are a nationwide network of high schools and colleges that work collaboratively to provide
underserved high school students the opportunity to access college courses and earn an
associate degree/college credits at no cost to student or families. The Middle College National Consortium believes that authentic school reform grows out of sustained collaboration among master practitioners, structured communication, and support for perpetual growth of leadership skills for all constituents. Centered on six Design Principles, MCNC schools bridge the high school and college experience for underserved youth leading to increased access to and success in college. A school-based, data driven practitioner network, Middle College National Consortium has successfully pioneered innovation in programs that serve districts, community colleges, universities, both public and charter; around the country for over three decades. KPI works with the MCNC team to offer blended professional development for teachers and administrators through Polilogue, our online community. On-site residencies and expert coaches work with school administrators and staff in the key areas:

Dynamic high school-college partnerships
College Readiness in Teaching and Learning: Literacy, Numeracy, and College Knowledge
Student Support
Peer Review: Developing democratic governance and teacher empowerment
Data Driven Decision Making
Collaborative Professional Development

The Community College Research Center reports that students from higher-income and college-educated families take college courses in high school at substantially higher rates than Black, Latino, rural, low-income, and first-generation students. A program built to open a door is being used most by the families already through it.

Middle colleges were designed from the other direction, starting with the students least likely to get there on their own.

Join the MCNC team for a discussion on the value of the middle/early college experience!

With the price of higher education soaring, middle colleges offer a different route: high schools based on community college campuses where students earn a diploma and substantial college credit, often tuition-free.

Join us Tuesday, September 29 at 12:00 p.m. ET for Meeting the Moment: The Value of Middle Colleges. Our panel of practitioners from California, Maryland, and the Middle College National Consortium will walk through how these programs cut costs, close equity gaps, and get more students across the finish line.
