During Mission Month in April, Campus Ministry & Social Action usually hosts a college-wide Day of Service. With the transition of all campus activities and classes to an online platform, the Lasallian Outreach Collaborative & Mission Month Day of Service Planning Committee have decided to hold the Mission Month Day of ADVOCACY this coming Wednesday, April 29th.
Instead of assisting community partner organizations with different volunteer service projects, we invite you to help Manhattan College show our Lasallian mission in action by advocating for communities impacted most by COVID-19.
We will be participating in an existing online campaign through the Ignatian Solidarity Network. Congress has now passed three relief packages, and additional money for the small business assistance program, but the need is so much greater, especially in vulnerable communities. The goal of this event is to encourage our Manhattan College community to join Catholic colleges and universities across the country in advocating for another relief package that includes measures to protect our most vulnerable communities.
To participate, students, faculty, administrators, and staff are asked to join us in asking Congress to pass a new relief package that will protect those most in need. The bill should include measures to improve the economic security and address the unique health risks posed to many who have been deemed essential workers during this crisis, as well as people in our prisons, migrants, low-income communities and communities of color which already bear the burden of poor environmental and health conditions.
To participate, we are asking everyone to:
1. Use the link from the Ignatian Solidarity Network to advocate, and ask your representatives to pass a new relief package.
2. Repost the campaign to your story/timeline (if you have Instagram or Facebook) or to share this email with colleagues.
3. Tag and 5 other Jaspers on Social Media to encourage as much advocacy as possible!
