Carlos M. Camacho and Alexis Espinoza presented "Un Sitio Donde Ellos Viven, Como Ellos Viven: LGBT Latinos & the Social Justice Sexuality Project" looking at family support and spirituality as predictors of outness amongst LGBT Latinas/os. Family support is very important for LGBT Latinos/as. The more family support one has the more likely one is to be out. This is in contrast to our spirituality variable. The more spiritual/religious one is the less likely one is to be out. Both of these variables were statistically significant (.001). Demographics (age, gender, income and education) were not found to predict outness.

Abigail Kolker and Vernon Caldwell presented "Findings from a Nationwide Survey of LGBT Black Men & Women" looking at outness, spirituality and community eengagement as predictors of happiness for Black LGBT people. All three variables were found to predict happiness at a level that is statistically significant (.001).

Hello All. Four of our graduate students presented on SJS Project data this weekend at the Eastern Sociological Society meeting in NYC. Two students presented on the Latino sample. The other two presented on the Black sample.
