Columbia Data Science Society The Columbia Data Science Society (CDSS) is an interdisciplinary society that promotes data science across Columbia University.

The Columbia Data Science Society (CDSS) is an interdisciplinary society that promotes data science across Columbia University and the New York City community. Our goal is to understand how to use and manage data to solve complex problems. We believe that the key to data science is its interdisciplinary scope, so we strongly encourage students from all backgrounds to join us. The society has three

core priorities: learning, networking, and practicing. To learn about data science, we host a variety of speaker series, panel discussions, and skills workshops. To network with data scientists, we arrange social events on campus and promote meet-ups around the city. To practice data science, we organize data science competitions, where members work in teams to test their problem-solving skills. Please join us on this new and exciting knowledge frontier! To be notified about all future CDSS events and news please subscribe to our email list, either via the list web site, or by sending an email to [email protected]. You can also connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. For more information, please email [email protected] or a board member from your school.

Hi everyone! We are hosting a two-part workshop on machine learning and its applications in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). On Wednesday, November 20th from 7:30pm - 9:00pm, there will be a workshop on campus to learn more about the fundamentals of machine learning and how it can be applied to DeepRacer. On Friday, November 22nd from 2:00pm-4:00pm, the students who participate in this workshop will travel to AWS’s offices downtown to learn more about ML and its applications and see DeepRacer in action! Due to the nature of the event, we have to cap the number of students that can attend. Please note that you MUST attend both events if you are selected as a participant. If you are interested, please fill out the following form before 11:59pm on Monday, November 18th

ATTENTION!
Columbia Data Science Society is starting a Women in Data Science mentorship program that lasts from February to April 2019, aiming to inspire and support more female-identifying students to join the data science field. During this mentorship program, we will have data science mentors (from Uber, Two Sigma and Facebook, to name a few) connect with a select group of undergraduate and graduate female-identifying mentee-students interested in pursuing data science careers. We are now accepting applications to become a mentee.

The application is due Feb 8th, 2019: https://goo.gl/forms/m0MINXiul0rjTN0f2

Mentorship Program Highlights:
There will be 3 key events held at Columbia (dates are TBC):
Women in Data Science Panel (Tues evening, Feb 19, 2019);
Women in Data Science Mentor-Mentee Mixer in (Thurs evening, Mar 14, 2019)
Women in Data Science Closing Ceremony in (Sat morning, Apr 20, 2019)
Mentors would connect with our mentees at least once a month outside of these scheduled events (in-person preferably if based in NYC; online if based outside NYC)

If you are interested in becoming a mentee in the inaugural Spring 2019 Women in Data Science program by Columbia Data Science Society, please fill out the application form below. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]. We look forward to reading your application! Thank...
