Hi there! SASE NYU would love to share what our president (Derrick Yuen) has to say about SASE:
"There are many descriptions of what service is or why it is important, but I choose to believe that service is an opportunity to give back to the community and to work with people who you may come to trust through such an experience. The following photo was taken when I volunteered with my guidance counselor to work with the rest of my classmates to clean up Breezy Point after Hurricane Sandy attack at the year of 2012. It may not be a volunteering experience that I have done as a SASE member, but I feel that there is a lot that I took out from this experience. Out of many volunteering experiences over the years, I choose this photo because it reminds me of how much I felt and learned from working with everyone for a good cause. I never remembered why I chose to take this time and effort for such an action, but I honestly am glad that I did. Seeing the happiness of the old couple that I helped repair their home for was more than enough to show that my decision to work was for the right cause. It made me feel happy that my small actions can help their lives. In addition, working with my friends that I met from this experience made me realized that I can do everything that I can to help because I have people to help me and work with me. Service isn’t just serving back the community, rather it is the feeling of working with people and the dedication to help others that make service interesting, learning, and bonding experience for everyone. There are many hard times when it comes to volunteering, but it is the experience from taking the time to volunteer that can mean a lot. I want people to volunteer in services not only to help others, but also to enjoy every moment of working with others to make the best possible work done ever. "
