Yesterday, and Dedication To Community proudly celebrated the official opening of the Dedication to Community Justice Institute at the University of Mount Saint Vincent with a ribbon cutting ceremony on our Riverdale campus!

Members of both the Mount and D2C communities gathered to mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter—one rooted in education, dialogue, leadership, and action. The Institute will create new opportunities for students and local partners to explore complex issues of justice, engage across perspectives, and develop the skills needed to create meaningful change.

The celebration also marked an exciting evolution at the Mount with the announcement of the newly renamed School of Education and Justice, which will serve as the academic home of the D2C Justice Institute, as well as the launch of the Justice Collaborative, inviting members of our broader communities to become active participants in advancing this important work.

The day's events were concluded with a fireside chat with the Institute's Inaugural Senior Fellow Corny Koehl, UMSV President Susan R. Burns, PhD, and the Institute’s Founder, CEO, and Lead Master Instructor M. Quentin Williams.

Big news for the Mount!

has been awarded a $3 million Strengthening Institutions Program grant from the U.S. Department of Education (and Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor), providing transformative support for student success over the next five years.

The funding will help the Mount strengthen academic advising and tutoring, expand career readiness and work-based learning opportunities, leverage AI and technology to enhance student support, and invest in the University’s long-term capacity—all with a focus on helping more students persist, graduate, and thrive.

This investment is another powerful step in ensuring that every student at the Mount has the resources, opportunities, and support they need to move .

has once again earned national recognition on U.S. News and World Report’s 2027 Best Colleges rankings—and, for the first time, we’re ranked among Regional Universities North, joining a new peer group of larger and more competitive institutions across the northeast.

Yet, even on this bigger stage, our mission continues to shine. UMSV is tied for number 64 among Regional Universities North and tied for number 13 among Top Performers on Social Mobility, recognizing our enduring commitment to expanding access, advancing opportunity, and helping every student thrive.

From the classroom to their careers— students are getting ready to take their next steps with confidence.

This Fall, the Mount launched the Braven Career and Leadership Accelerator, a three-credit course that brings career preparation, leadership development, mentorship, and professional networking directly into the undergraduate experience.

Students recently kicked off their Braven journey with their first in-person Learning Lab in Smith Hall, where they began building the skills and connections that will help prepare them for internships, careers, graduate school, and beyond.

Throughout the semester, students will strengthen skills in professional communication, networking, interviewing, career planning, and personal branding—all while learning alongside peers and connecting with coaches, mentors, and working professionals.

It's yet another way we’re helping Mount students connect what they learn today with where they want to go tomorrow. Read more in the story below!

New Partnership Brings Career Preparation, Leadership Development, Mentorship, and Professional Networking Directly into the Undergraduate Experience

This past Thursday, was proud to take the next step in formalizing its partnership with The Fedcap Group and Apex Technical School, signing an MOU that will bring electrical training to the Mount as part of our new College of Tech and Trade.

President Susan R. Burns, PhD joined leaders from Fedcap and Apex, community partners, and members of the community to celebrate a shared vision for the future—one that creates stronger connections between education, hands-on skills, meaningful employment, and pathways to degree completion.

Together, we firmly believe that higher education must continue to respond to the “signs of the times” by meeting learners when, where, and how they need us. Through this partnership, students will be able to develop career-ready technical skills while becoming part of a University community committed to opening doors to continued education and lifelong opportunity.

25 years later, we reflect. We remember. We pray.

Today, joins our fellow New Yorkers and people across our nation in honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, as well as the survivors, first responders, families, and countless others forever changed by that day.

We remember, too, the extraordinary courage and compassion that emerged in the face of tragedy—the people who ran toward danger, the neighbors who cared for one another, and the communities that came together in service, sacrifice, and solidarity.

True to our mission, Saint Vincent de Paul reminds us that “love is inventive to infinity.”

May the enduring call to love guide the way we remember this day: by recognizing our common humanity, upholding the dignity of every person, and embracing our obligations to one another.

On this 25th anniversary, we reflect on those who served. We remember those we lost. And we pray for a world shaped by peace.

Call us old fashioned, but we still love a good post—even if we’re only throwing it back to last week. 😂

Last Monday, the Mount community came together to officially welcome the Class of 2030 into the ’Phin Fam! 🐬 The afternoon started with our annual , where first-year students gathered to recite the pledge and officially commence their undergraduate studies.

Immediately following, the party got started! 💃🏻 Students, faculty, and staff alike gathered on the Great Lawn for our annual involvement fair. Students had the opportunity to meet and mingle with campus clubs and organizations, watch performances from our dance teams, and enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner courtesy of UMSV Dining Services.

And, of course, our very own campus pup, Hudson, stopped by for the fun! 🐶

Today, we take time to reflect and we honor all those who work hard in support of their families, friends, and communities. We are especially grateful for all our employees who work tirelessly each day to help make the the special place it continues to be.

A friendly reminder that there are no classes today, campus offices are closed, and shuttle services are suspended. We’ll see you back on campus tomorrow! 👋

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! 🐬

(And no, we’re not talking about Christmas…we’re talking about the start of a new academic year at !)

We officially welcomed Class of 2030 into the ’Phin Fam today and kicked off our Welcome Weekend activities! 2️⃣0️⃣3️⃣0️⃣

First up: moving into Spellman Hall! Vinny the Dolphin and our Mount Movers teamed up to bring the muscle and helped our students and their families settle into their new home away from home. 💪

Commuters are connecting, parents are saying their goodbyes, and Hudson even made a special appearance! 🐶

It’s set to be a great weekend at the . We can’t wait to share more!
