Rajni Jaiswal ’26 came to Pace with a deep interest in equity, governance, and the systems that serve people.

Through Dyson’s Master of Public Administration program, she built a path focused on public service, education access, research, and student support. Her next chapter includes work with the Simons STEM Scholars Program at Stony Brook University and continued research with Pace’s Department of Public Administration.

Rajni Jaiswal ’26 is using her MPA from Dyson to support equity, education access, and student success while continuing faculty-mentored research at Pace.

A secret society. An elite Manhattan high school. A mysterious blue hand. 👀 When Dyson College English adjunct faculty member Rowana Miller sat down to write Secrets of the Blue Hand Girls, she had some particularly good source material: her own experience being recruited into a college secret society through an anonymous letter promising “mystery and intrigue.”

That experience eventually helped inspire her debut YA thriller—a story about wealth, ambition, girlhood, identity, and the pressure teenagers feel to have their futures completely figured out. In our latest faculty Q+A, Miller shares the story behind the book, reflects on the mentor who believed in her manuscript early on, and talks about why two unpublished novels were an important part of the road to becoming a published author.

Everyone’s talking about The Odyssey—so we’re looking back at Dyson students’ own journey through Greece this summer. 🌊🇬🇷

In LIT 211Y: Greece, A Modern Odyssey, students connected Homer’s epic with modern refugee narratives, service, and advocacy before taking those lessons beyond the classroom during 12 days in Greece.

From studying the journey to experiencing the places and perspectives connected to their coursework, students saw how learning can extend far beyond the page.

Congratulations to Alessandra Barretta ’26, whose Dyson journey is leading her toward a future in dentistry. 🦷 As a biology major, Alessandra gained hands-on research experience with faculty mentors, built a strong foundation in the sciences, and is now preparing for the Dental Admission Test while working as an orthodontic assistant.

We are so proud to celebrate Alessandra’s curiosity, dedication, and commitment to patient care.

With faculty-mentored research, hands-on clinical experience, and dental school in her sights, Alessandra Barretta ’26 is turning scientific curiosity into a career devoted to patient care.

When people think about criminal justice, they often picture courtrooms, investigations, or scenes from TV.

Cathryn Lavery, PhD, wants students to look closer.

As professor and chair of Dyson’s Criminal Justice and Security Department, Lavery studies human trafficking, intimate partner violence, trauma, officer wellness, social media and violent crime, and humane criminology. Her work challenges students to see criminal justice as deeply multidisciplinary, connecting law, psychology, ethics, economics, public health, technology, and survivor advocacy.

“Criminal justice is probably the most multidisciplinary major or field that exists,” Lavery says.

At Dyson, students are learning to question assumptions, recognize hidden patterns, and understand the human realities behind some of society’s most complex issues.
