At Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, groundbreaking research isn't just about scientific discovery. It's about changing what is possible for people around the world.

Faculty researchers at Pace's Haskins Laboratories have helped advance a remarkable treatment for sleeping sickness, a potentially fatal parasitic disease that has historically required complicated and sometimes toxic treatments.

Now, a single-dose oral medication offers a dramatically simpler path to treatment, thanks in part to years of dedication, collaboration, and scientific discovery at Pace.

And for the researchers behind this achievement, the story is far from finished.

Decades of research at Pace’s Haskins Labs helped pave the way for a lifesaving treatment for sleeping sickness with far-reaching global impact.

The Hudson River became a classroom for a day! 🌊

Led by Professor Nicole Asquith, students in Dyson's ENV 100 course participated in *A Day in the Life of the Hudson and Harbor*, an annual event bringing together more than 5,000 students from 90 schools to explore the ecological health of the Hudson River.

Through hands-on environmental research, students helped examine the river's biodiversity, water quality, and changing conditions as part of a collaborative effort spanning more than 100 waterfront sites.

It's experiences like these that bring learning to life, giving students the opportunity to apply what they're studying in the classroom to the world around them. 💙💛

Some of the most exciting careers are the ones you create for yourself. 💙💛

Just ask Dyson alumna Sydney Burtis ’22, who has turned her passion for dance into a thriving career as a choreographer, educator, and entrepreneur.

Since graduating with a degree in communication studies, Sydney has founded her own dance company, Elements of Sound, taught at renowned studios including Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway, and presented her choreography at festivals throughout New York City. Her latest achievement? Being selected to showcase her work at the SILO Dance Festival.

Sydney credits her time at Pace with helping her develop the communication and networking skills she uses every day. With professors who encouraged her to explore her interests and connect her coursework to her passion for dance, she was able to shape an educational experience uniquely her own.

Her journey is a reminder that a college education can do more than prepare students for existing opportunities. It can give them the foundation to create entirely new ones.

What did freedom mean in a city where the ideals of liberty coexisted with slavery?

On October 15, Pace University and Humanities New York invite the community to “Slavery and the Price of Freedom in Revolutionary New York,” an interactive discussion examining the complexities of freedom in early America.

Led by Joe Murphy, director of strategic partnerships at Humanities New York, the conversation will explore the story of Peter Williams Sr., a formerly enslaved New Yorker who gained his freedom in 1796.

Participants will examine historical documents, reflect on the realities of enslavement in Lower Manhattan, and consider the lasting impact of slavery on New York City.

As surveillance technology continues to evolve, Pace University political science professor Amy Freedman, PhD, is examining its impact on democracy, individual freedoms, and civil liberties.
