It was a pleasure welcoming NYFA alumni Kellen Gibbs, Jordan Knapp, Ka’Prise Colvin, and Luke Sweeney back to campus for a special screening and Q&A of their award-winning feature film The Novel 🎬✨

Presented in collaboration with NYFA’s Alumni, Film Festival, and Acting departments, the evening featured an insightful conversation moderated by Performing Arts Department Chair Anne Moore, exploring the film’s journey from development to production and the power of creative collaboration among alumni.

🏆 Winner of Best Picture at NoHo CineFest, The Novel has also screened at Cinequest Film Festival and earned recognition at Cinejoy Film Festival. The film follows struggling writer Calvin Connally as he becomes entangled in the life of an aspiring actress confronting the mysterious death of her father.

Directed by NYFA alum Deanté Gray and co-written/co-produced by NYFA alum Sam Buckner III, this gripping musical crime thriller is set in 1967 Detroit, where a desperate group of friends chase fame after a soul duo overdoses just before their big break. This May, New York Film Academy participated in the Hong Kong International AI Film Festival. 🎥 NYFA judges Craig Caton-Largent, Professor and Creative Director of the Media Arts Department, and Dr. Joy Zhu, Executive Vice President for Global Partnerships, served on the festival's jury panel. During the festival's roundtable discussion, Caton joined leading industry figures to discuss the historic, evolving bond between filmmaking and technology.

NYFA President Michael J. Young delivered the keynote address at the Awards Ceremony, reinforcing the academy's mission to empower the next generation of storytellers. 🎬✨
