The New York Film Academy (NYFA) offers degree, 1 & 2 year conservatory programs, short-term workshops, and youth camps in a variety of visual storytelling, visual arts, and performing arts disciplines. Those disciplines may include: Filmmaking, Acting for Film, Producing, Photography, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Documentary Filmmaking, Game Design, 3D Animation & VFX, Musical Theatre, Broadcast Journalism, Virtual Reality, Music Video and Digital Editing. NYFA has always followed the philosophy of "learning by doing", in hands-on classes taught by dynamic, industry accomplished, and passionate instructors. Students from all backgrounds walks of life, and nations, foster a nurturing and challenging, creative environment that promotes collaboration. 🎃 👻 With Halloween just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the artistry behind some of television’s most iconic scares!

The cast and creators of American Horror Story: Season 13 gathered for a red carpet and panel event at PaleyFest NY, with stars Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, and Gabourey Sidibe in attendance. 🖤

Adding to the series’ creative legacy, NYFA faculty member Suki Medencevic, ASC, cinematographer and director of photography, brought his expertise to American Horror Story: Hotel (Season 5), helping bring the haunting visual world of AHS to life. 🎥

As we count down to Halloween, we’re celebrating the filmmakers and storytellers who make the magic and the scares happen behind the scenes! 😱

🎉 Congratulations to New York Film Academy alum Zhenglong Zhai (Fall 2024 MFA Cinematography), who has won the prestigious 2026 Tom Houghton, ASC Graduate Award from the American Society of Cinematographers for his film Under Grace! 🏆

Under Grace, written and directed by fellow NYFA alum Fei Cao (Fall 2024 MFA Filmmaking), showcases Zhenglong’s exceptional visual storytelling, artistry, and cinematography style. 🎬

"What a tremendous honor for Zhenglong to win the prestigious ASC Student Heritage Award! His stunning film and thoughtful craftsmanship, from lighting and lens selection to seamless collaboration, is a terrific example of NYFA student work at its finest. Congratulations to Zhenlong, and to collaborator Fei Cao for her nuanced directing!" said Crickett Rumley, Senior Director, NYFA Film Festival Department.

🎬 From the NYFA classroom to the set of Obsession!
Obsession comes full circle with connections to the New York Film Academy, from the Director, Curry Barker, a former NYFA student, to three current NYFA students collaborating on the blockbuster film! 🔥

NYFA students Mariana Silva, Jorge Luquín, and Emilio Flores Rodriguez got an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience on the production of Obsession, directed by filmmaker Curry Barker, who also attended NYFA. Working as Production Assistants and Background Actors, they experienced firsthand what it takes to bring a film to life alongside a professional cast and crew.

Their time on set offered valuable lessons in collaboration, adaptability, and the realities of working in film production, turning their NYFA training into real-world experience.
Their biggest takeaways? Stay curious. Stay ready. Work together. And never stop learning. 🎥

And the NYFA connection doesn’t end there. It was at NYFA that Curry Barker met actress Chloe Breen, whom he later cast in Obsession. A NYFA alumna with a BFA in Acting for Film, Breen appears in the film’s opening close-up conversation with Bear, a key scene that establishes the film’s central themes. Curry's brother, Riley Barker, also attended NYFA and his friendship with Emilio is how these three NYFA students got connected to the project. This makes Obsession another great example of the creative connections and opportunities that can grow from the NYFA community.

On October 9, "Adam’s Fire," the latest film from NYFA alum Bob Ahmed, arrives on screen. 📽️

Set in rural West Virginia, the film follows a grieving young boy caught between vengeance and healing. An unexpected friendship brings two cultures face-to-face, challenging assumptions and revealing the power of community when we need it most.

For Bob, storytelling has always been about looking beyond the surface and giving a voice to people who are often misunderstood or misrepresented.

Bob came to NYFA for a three-month film course where he discovered creative freedom that helped to fuel his filmmaking vision. 🔥
