The New York Film Academy (NYFA) offers degree, 1 & 2 year conservatory programs, short-term workshops, and youth camps in a variety of visual storytelling, visual arts, and performing arts disciplines. Those disciplines may include: Filmmaking, Acting for Film, Producing, Photography, Screenwriting, Cinematography, Documentary Filmmaking, Game Design, 3D Animation & VFX, Musical Theatre, Broadcas

During this summer's NYFA youth camp at our Los Angeles campus, 3 Week Teen Filmmaking and Acting students from around the world were given the opportunity to collaborate on original short films using the Little Europe set on Universal Studios backlot as a shooting location.

This iconic set previously served as the backdrop for famous titles such as "Frankenstein", "Dracula", "The Good Place", "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" as well as many more. Our talented group of teen filmmakers and performers had an inspiring time creating together while following in the footsteps of Hollywood history. 🎬✨

Tim Curry, Renowned Actor, dies at 80
The New York Film Academy is heartbroken by the passing of acclaimed actor Tim Curry (1946-2026), whose extraordinary career spanned film, television, theater, and voice performance.

From his unforgettable turn as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show to memorable roles in Annie, Clue, It, and Muppet Treasure Island, Curry brought remarkable range, charisma, and theatricality to every performance.

Curry also appeared in The Hunt for Red October (1990), portraying Dr. Petrov alongside Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, James Earl Jones, and Sam Neill. The film holds a special connection to the New York Film Academy: it was executive produced by Jerry Sherlock, who founded NYFA in 1992 with a vision of hands-on, industry-focused filmmaking education.

NYFA extends its deepest condolences to Tim Curry's family, friends, collaborators, and the countless audiences who were captivated by his work. His singular talent and unforgettable performances will continue to inspire generations of artists and actors.

Dolly Parton, Beloved Singer, Songwriter, and Actress, dies at 80
The New York Film Academy is deeply saddened by the passing of legendary singer, songwriter, actress, and cultural icon Dolly Parton (1946-2026), whose extraordinary career spanned music, film, television, and philanthropy. 🦋🎶

Parton made her unforgettable film debut as Doralee Rhodes in the beloved comedy 9 to 5 (1980), for which she also wrote and performed the Academy Award-nominated title song. She went on to deliver memorable performances in The Best Little Wh******se in Texas, Rhinestone, Steel Magnolias, Straight Talk, and Joyful Noise, among others.

Her influence on film extended far beyond her acting. Parton’s remarkable catalog of songs including “I Will Always Love You,” “9 to 5,” and “Jolene” have become part of the soundtrack of generations, with her music featured, adapted, and reimagined across film and television. She also contributed extensively to film soundtracks, including writing 10 original songs for Straight Talk, and writing and performing “Travelin’ Thru,” the Oscar-nominated song featured in the 2005 film Transamerica, which follows a transgender woman as she reconnects with her son.
Dolly Parton’s legacy extended far beyond entertainment, with her philanthropy supporting literacy, education, children, disaster relief, and communities in need through initiatives including her Imagination Library, which has provided millions of free books to children around the world. Dolly was well-known for her generosity, kindness, and positive outlook on life.

For filmmakers, actors, musicians, and storytellers, Dolly Parton represented the power of an authentic creative voice and the ability to cross artistic boundaries while remaining unmistakably yourself.
