For Yombo Adesanya, hospitality starts with curiosity: What makes a resort feel special? What draws people to a destination? What turns a place into an experience?

As a student in the newly launched NYU SPS Associate of Applied Science in Hospitality Management, Yombo is turning that curiosity into a career path, exploring event planning, high-end resorts, guest experience, and the many opportunities within the hospitality industry.

"I have been learning a lot of in-depth information in the field, such as careers I had never heard of but am now very interested in," she says.

Offered through a partnership between the NYU Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality and the NYU SPS Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies, the new AAS in Hospitality Management combines flexible coursework, hands-on learning, and industry-connected experiences in areas such as event planning, hotel management, food and beverage, and more.

For Yombo, that has already meant new possibilities. "It has prepared me by sparking an interest in specific careers in the field, and I have resources to help me reach those career goals," she shares.

Nearly a quarter of US working professionals experience
mid-career stall — still working, but with no promotion or wage increase for five years or more, according to a new report from the NYU School of Professional Studies and Burning Glass Institute, with support from The Gates Foundation.

The report, titled "Sidetracked: The Hidden Crisis In Mid-Career Mobility," provides the first large-scale analysis of a workforce phenomenon that has been hiding in plain sight. Unlike layoffs or sectoral decline, mid-career stall isn’t marked by job loss. Rather, it is a loss of momentum inside employment — a structural slowdown in advancement that can leave experienced workers stranded even as employers struggle to fill higher-value roles.

"Mid-career stall is often treated as an individual problem, but our research shows that it is also a systems problem — one that can be detected earlier and addressed more intentionally," said Angie Kamath, Harvey J. Stedman Dean of the NYU School of Professional Studies. "Higher education can play an important role in helping working adults and HR and workforce development professionals translate experience into renewed mobility, especially when programs are aligned with the skills and career transitions that the labor market actually rewards."

"Career advancement increasingly depends on whether working adults can identify the right next move and access learning that helps them make it," said Douglas Harrison, clinical professor and associate dean of the NYU SPS Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies. "This research gives educators a more precise view of where mid-career professionals get stuck and which skills, credentials, and transitions can help them regain upward mobility."

Congratulations to NYU SPS Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media 2026 graduate Emily Hoffert, who has secured a role as a Performance Marketing & Audience Development Assistant at Macmillan Publishers in the Consumer Insights & Marketing Analytics department.

"Holding 'The Book of Hope' reminds me how my journey started at Celadon Books, who published it, and has now come full circle again in Macmillan's central marketing team. In my new role, I’m excited to help improve our large-scale marketing systems so we can reach readers more effectively… and to make some guest appearances on our social media! Thanks to NYU, I have the experience and connections to step into this chapter with confidence, and with hope."

For our “My Next Chapter” series, Emily chose 'The Book of Hope' by Jane Goodall and Douglas Abrams, a book that reflects both where her publishing journey began and the optimism she’s carrying into her next chapter.

"The program was very encouraging for any young writers with an aspiration of turning their passion into a career," says Alice Kas, who participated in our High School Academy's Career Edge summer program creative writing course 'Finding Your Muse in the Metropolis.'

As a rising high school senior from New Jersey, Alice spent a week in NYC finding inspiration. From visits to the Morgan Library & Museum, Little Island, and the Whitney, to guest speakers and peer workshops, Alice explored storytelling, fiction, poetry, and the possibilities of writing as a future career.

Surrounded by classmates from around the world, she found a welcoming creative community that helped her share her work, strengthen her voice, and generate new ideas.

The deadline to apply for this year's program is June 12. Learn more: https://www.sps.nyu.edu/high-school-academy/programs/career-edge.html

Congratulations to NYU SPS Division of Programs in Business MS in Integrated Marketing 2026 graduate Sanina Zhou, who has secured a role as a Social Media Content Strategist at Gloves In A Bottle, a California-based health and wellness company.

"NYU gave me the foundation, but I know this is only the beginning. I'm excited to keep learning, growing, and building toward becoming a thoughtful and strategic marketing manager."

For our 'My Next Chapter' series, Sanina chose a book that reflects the strategic mindset she's bringing into her career in marketing.

"I discovered 'Blue Ocean Strategy' through my Competitive Strategy class, and its core idea — creating meaningful differentiation rather than just following the competition — is something I believe will never go out of date."

NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate Associate Dean Marc Norman was quoted by Metro Quadrado on the recent Brazil Week @ the Journal panel session.
