Touro University Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center launched the nation’s first-ever antisemitism clinic at a law school!

Led by Mark Goldfeder, a rabbi and lawyer whose academic focus has been on constitutional and international law, this clinic is designed to train the next generation of legal advocates. Students have completed trainings on antisemitism for the FBI, Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies; worked with the NYC Antisemitism Task Force; and met with senior administration officials.

Alum spotlight! Touro School of Health Sciences alumna Arianna Costanzom ('25) applies psychology, data, and lessons from Touro's Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology program into her exciting role at Steve Madden.

Arianna’s work ranges from helping company leaders identify employees who could grow into key roles to orienting new hires, analyzing HR metrics, and making sure employee records accurately reflect contracts, bonuses, and other agreements.

"I’m really passionate about the workplace and trying to make little changes here and there, trying to see what’s going well, what’s not going well. I feel like I-O psych really gave me that opportunity and a different perspective to see what the workplace is all about....I-O psych is a useful tool. It can help both employers and employees understand more about the hiring process, the employee lifecycle, retention, succession planning, and more.”

Professor spotlight! Touro Professor Dana Fishkin, who teaches medieval Jewish history and literature at the Graduate School of Jewish Studies and Lander College for Women, finds the study of Jewish history can offer helpful perspective and comfort.

A trip to Rome in high school ignited a life-long passion that led to a career researching and teaching about medieval Jews of the Italian peninsula. Fishkin, who has published articles in Prooftexts and the Jewish Quarterly Review and contributed to Jewish Romance in the Middle Ages and the Encyclopedia of Skepticism, also published her first book, Bridging Worlds: Poetry and Philosophy in the Works of Immanuel of Rome.

"Studies such as mine will, hopefully, alert people to the types of societal stressors and anxieties that instigate people to scapegoat Jews and other minority populations," she explains.

Student spotlight! Meet Abigail Smurzynski, a medical student superstar at TouroCOM dedicated to emergency care and community service. Abigail is certified in trauma and basic life support and is a certified nursing assistant and ambulance driver.

“I chose TouroCOM because I wanted to work with underserved populations and I really admired their commitment to community service and to community-based medicine,” she says.

Student spotlight! Congrats to Noah Steinbuch from Touro's New College of Podiatric Medicine on receiving a Folds of Honor Higher Education Scholarship! The scholarship provides financial assistance to the spouses and children of military service members who have died or become disabled.

After shadowing a podiatrist, Noah found a field that brought together several of the subjects that had interested him as an undergraduate. “I loved seeing how movement and healing connect. Podiatry combines orthopedics, biomechanics, and patient care. It’s exactly where I want to be," he says.
