Rebecca Oling, Director of Digital Accessibility at Purchase College, SUNY, will present on digital accessibility. She will describe the laws, principles, and standards that affect the equity in our digital landscape. She will outline the responsibilities we have and why digital accessibility matters and the potential consequences of non compliance. This primer aims to shift participants' thinking on accessibility best practices and how individuals can make a key difference in progress!
Objectives include:
* Understand why digital accessibility matters and your role (the why and who)
* Recognize common barriers for those with disabilities
* Know and be able to apply the POUR concepts
* Review legal requirements and potential consequences of non-compliance
* Know and articulate key WCAG standards relevant to course content
Rebecca Albrecht Oling is the Director of Digital Accessibility at Purchase College, SUNY. She is a full professor in the library department, and a certified professional in accessibility core competencies (CPACC). She is the co-author of The Digital Accessibility Handbook for Libraries, published by the American Library Association (ALA) in 2025, which provides comprehensive guidance on creating accessible library, digital, and physical spaces.
