On Friday, August 28th at 6pm, DMA violinist Jessica Oddie performs with cellist Clare Monfredo and pianist Jessica Xylina Osborne in Elebash Recital Hall. The program features Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber’s Passacaglia in G minor, c. 105; Salina Fisher’s “Chasm”; J.S. Bach’s Ciaconna from Partita No.2 in d minor for Solo Violin, BWV 1004; and Johannes Brahms’ Piano Trio No.1 in B major, Op.8.

Bach’s English Suite No. 3 in G minor, BWV 808; Frédéric Chopin’s Etude in F major, Op. 10 No. 8 and Andante Spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante in E-flat Major, Op. 22; Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata No. 3 in C major, Op. 2; and Robert Schumann’s Kreisleriana Op. 16.

Musicologist Kofi Agawu receives the 2026 Society for Music Analysis Pascall Medal for his influential scholarship on European classical and African music.

Congratulations to Professor Kofi Agawu, who has been awarded the 2026 Pascall Medal from the Society for Music Analysis!

Established in 2021, the Pascall Medal is named after Robert Pascall (1944-2018), reflecting his inestimable work in the discipline of music analysis. It is awarded to a scholar who has made a highly significant contribution to analytically-based musicological research and/or the teaching of music analysis.

Congratulations to DMA violinist Yebin Yoo, who has been named one of five finalists of the 2026 Lillian and Maurice Barbash J.S. Bach String Competition!

The final round will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 1:00pm at Stony Brook University’s Staller Center Recital Hall, with livestream available on the Violin Channel.

Congratulations to DMA flutist Yoshi Weinberg on receiving a Fulbright Fellowship to Austria for the 2026-2027 academic year! Yoshi will pursue contemporary music studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz to work with members of the Klangforum Wien ensemble, and to study the compositions of Julius Eastman, a q***r Black composer.

Yoshi credits the Graduate Center’s Fulbright advising team, Rachel Sponzo (Associate Director of Student Research Fellowships), Professor Emily Wilbourne, and Prof. Anne Stone in the competitive application process.

Congratulations to GC alumna Alice Xue (Ph.D. in Music Theory, ’25) on securing a position as assistant professor of music theory and ear training at Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University!
