Meet 33-year-old Mathieu Cohen, a four-time honorary president who completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degree studies with high honors in the Department of Sociology, Political Science and Communication at the Open University, and will soon begin research on democracies in decline (Democratic Decay) doctoral studies at the University of Leiden Holland, department Its politics is ranked 20th in the world according to the QS ranking.

His master’s thesis in the program for the outstanding in interdisciplinary democracy studies at the Open University, dealt with the ideology of the political right in Israel and parts of it were published as articles in international journals. Now he is in the middle of the process of translating it into English, and turning it into a book about the Israeli right. When published, it will be Matthew’s third book.

Along with diligently publishing and participating in conferences, Mathieu works through various publishers, including the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), to edit and provide professional opinions on academic articles that are published through them.
But most importantly, he and his partner are expecting a firstborn son to be born in the coming months. good time!

Mathieu says: “The Open University is a special and valuable institution for me. Not only because it provides an opportunity for everyone to learn from anywhere and at any time, but because of its academic level and the opportunities it provides for professional and academic progress. Specifically, the political science department is one of the best in the country, produces excellent publications and employs excellent and diverse researchers that I had the honor to learn from and work under over the years.

Two researchers from the Department of Sociology, Political Science and Communication, at the Open University, won for the first time an Erasmus+ research grant for education and higher education named after Jean Monnet on behalf of the European Union Jean Monnet Module. The only one to win this grant.

Dr. Hila Zahavi and Dr. Sara Kahn-Nissar won the research grant for the development of a variety of courses dealing with the interface between European studies and international relations.

Dr. Hila Zahavi is a teaching coordinator who coordinates several courses in international relations. As part of her role, Hila won the teaching innovation award. Hila found a creative way to bring Europe to the classroom, and to bring together theory, current events and real people. She brought the Israeli students together with European students and together we discussed in burning issues on the agenda of the European Union.

There is no doubt that Hila’s high abilities in the field of teaching contributed to the win.

The win was also made possible in light of Dr. Sarah Kahn-Nisser’s comprehensive and in-depth research on the institutions of the Union. Dr. Kahn Nisser is an expert in international relations, her research focuses on the ways in which the international community, including the European Union, promotes human rights. Dr. Kahn-Nisser wrote the book “The European Union: History, Institutions and Policy” published by Lamda Limad which is a basic book for understanding relations in Europe in the 21st century> https://sheilta.apps.openu.ac.il/pls/dlamdal/lamda.perut?p_katalog=108015066

By the way, Jean Omer Marie Gabriel Monnet (1888-1979) is considered the father of the European Union and the one who weaved a lot of “behind the scenes” work in order to create understandings between the many governments for the creation of the Union.

Good luck to Sarah and Hila!
