Welcome (Back!)
We cannot pretend that this past year has not been filled with loss, stress, and abundant difficulties. This has, and continues to be, a time of mourning and loss for us all, whether because of COVID-19, the climate crisis, or personal & communal losses too numerous to name. Therefore, we would like to share with you all a Hebrew expression of consolation, one traditionally used to comfort mourners: Ha-makom yenahem otcha/otach — May G-d comfort you.
In Hebrew, the word “Ha-makom” is one of G-d’s many names, and, here, it has a beautiful double-meaning: the word also translates to “the place.”
Therefore, “Ha-makom yenahem otcha/otach” means both “May G-d comfort you” and “May this place comfort you.” We sincerely hope that this place, this community, can bring you comfort in the upcoming academic year. We also hope that you will be able to find comfort, faith, and healing, whatever that may mean to you and for you, here and elsewhere.
Coming soon: We will be sharing more information in the upcoming days about the High Holidays, how we are holding Shabbat services this semester, and details about other Kesher events!
