We’re shining the spotlight on our Lead Peer Mentor, Ava Caldwell (she/her), Class of 2027 ✨
A Neuroscience & Behavior major, Ava served as a Lead Peer Mentor during the Fall 2025 semester and is currently studying abroad. She highlights the power of mentorship in building confidence, meaningful connections, and a stronger sense of direction on campus.

Alt text: Instagram spotlight post featuring Ava Caldwell (she/her/hers), Lead Peer Mentor, Class of 2027, majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior. The post includes a photo of Ava smiling. Text on the post includes a Q&A with Ava, where she answers questions about her experience in the peer mentoring program. It reads:

WHY IS PEER MENTORING VALUABLE TO YOU?
“Mentorship is a very special kind of relationship - it’s about honoring and learning from someone’s lived experiences so your own path can feel more informed and meaningful. This program has helped me value guidance, have more confidence in the steps I take, and build genuinely meaningful friendships.“

HOW HAS MENTORING IMPACTED YOUR EXPERIENCE ON CAMPUS?

“Mentorship has made my campus experience much easier to navigate - decisions feel less overwhelming, and people feel more approachable. With fewer unknowns, I’ve been able to avoid paths that wouldn’t have been right for me and become more self-assured through my choices.”

HOW DO YOU THINK MENTEES BENEFIT FROM THE PROGRAM?

“It’s easy to push help away and feel empowered to do everything on your own - that’s always been my default. Having a mentor gives you stability and encouragement, and reminds you how important it is to feel seen and validated while being guided by someone’s experiential truth!”

HOW HAS MENTORING IMPACTED YOUR EXPERIENCE ON CAMPUS?

HOW DO YOU THINK MENTEES BENEFIT FROM THE PROGRAM?

“I hope that peer mentoring helps mentees feel less alone, and that there is someone at Barnard that might understand their struggles and that can help with them.”

CARDS is excited to highlight the incredible work of our peer mentors during Accessibility Week! Our peer mentors are upperclassmen registered with CARDS who make a meaningful impact in our community by serving as welcoming peers and invaluable resources for underclassmen navigating college with a disability. To kick off this series, we’re shining the spotlight on Madhavi Kennedy! Check it out to see what being a peer mentor means to her. ✨

Alt text: this post shows a graphic highlighting CARDS’ Peer Mentor Spotlight for Accessibility Week. The post introduces peer mentor Madhavi Kennedy and includes the following text:

WHY IS PEER MENTORING VALUABLE TO YOU?

“Prior to college, I didn’t really have any mentors when it came to my learning disabilities. It’s so valuable for me to be able to be the mentor I never had!”

HOW HAS MENTORING IMPACTED YOUR EXPERIENCE ON CAMPUS?

“I love the community it brings within the larger Barnard community. It truly makes my day when I see other mentees and mentors around campus and can have even a brief conversation just checking in.”

HOW DO YOU THINK MENTEES BENEFIT FROM THE PROGRAM?

“I think it brings a sense of belonging on campus and assures them that they always have someone in their corner!”

However, there are so many ways to navigate these struggles and I have found quite a few resources through talking to my other neurodivergent friends and working with an ADHD coach at CARDS.” - ESRS, ‘23 Slide 3: Beige background with dainty leaves and abstract shapes in the corner.
