The New York String Orchestra Seminar (NYSOS) starts on December 19 at Carnegie Hall and this year Jaime Laredo passes the baton. After 33 years as artistic director and conductor, Laredo will conduct his 62nd and final seminar concert on December 28 (https://www.carnegiehall.org/Events/New-York-String-Orchestra). He leaves a great legacy and will continue his career as a wonderfully collaborative guest conductor of orchestras across the country.

NYSOS alumni from Laredo’s tenure include conductors and soloists; chamber musicians performing in groups as diverse as Brooklyn Rider, the Silkroad Ensemble, and the Borromeo, Calidore, Juilliard, and Takacs string quartets, among many; concertmasters, principals, and members of major U.S. and international orchestras; and instructors in conservatory faculties and public schools.

Friend and colleague Michael Stern succeeds Laredo as artistic director and conductor in 2026.
