Behind-the-Scenes! 🎬🚘

Our NewhouseNYC student ejtaylorrr jumped right into the action as a production assistant on-set with The Motorclub, a members-only automotive collecting group! Working alongside Tyler Gildin and Gildin Media, EJ helped showcase luxury vehicles using Satco Products & Nuvo Lighting domino lighting system.

Throughout the shoot, EJ gained valuable industry insight and hands-on experience by taking on the responsibility of slating nearly every shot for the camera department, shadowing industry professionals, and lending a hand wherever needed.

We love seeing our students take initiative and make the most of these opportunities! Great job, EJ! 👏

Yesterday a group of Newhouse NYC students, professors and alumni had the opportunity to visit the Open AI headquarters in the Puck Building. Newhouse alum Evan Hirsch hosted us and told us all about his new role at OpenAI where he leads initiatives focused on AI adoption in newsrooms and helps journalists navigate AI-enabled workflows.

Evan has been a huge Newhouse NYC supporter over the years, hosting our students as interns at his former role at NBC, mentoring and speaking on panels. We are so grateful for his time and his dedication to our students!

We are so grateful for our mentors who create unforgettable experiences for our students! 🎥

Our NewhouseNYC student Jack Siciliano had the incredible opportunity to spend time and shadow with his mentor Josh Schafer, newsletter editor for Barron’s the business section of the The Wall Street Journal!

Josh provided Jack with a tour of the office, shared valuable career advice, and offered insight into his day-to-day responsibilities. Jack also got a behind-the-scenes look at Josh's Fox Business pre-show preparation and saw how that translates to live on-set for The Big Money Show!

A huge thank you to Josh for sharing his knowledge and expertise, while helping make this such a memorable experience! 👏

On Friday, we welcomed Rebecca Coleman ‘98, CEO of We Are Social, to the Newhouse School. We Are Social is a global creative agency whose campaigns bring together social strategy, cultural insight and bold creative work. This was her first time back on campus since graduating, so it was exciting to see her experience all the new spaces and buildings, especially Newhouse 3!

We really put Rebecca to work while she was here. She had brunch with students, visited multiple classes (including my COM 107 course), recorded a podcast, met with our advertising faculty and gave a talk to a packed Hergenhan Auditorium as part of our Leaders in Communications series.

Rebecca has accomplished so much in the industry, and our students loved hearing her speak from experience about how social-first thinking is reshaping brand storytelling and driving culture today. Nowhere but Newhouse do students get this kind of access to visionaries like Rebecca, which helps them understand where the industry is heading and puts them in the best possible position to succeed.

Thank you to Rebecca for the visit and to Adam Peruta, director of advanced media management and interim chair of the advertising department, for moderating the Leaders in Communications lecture.

Alumni Spotlight: Bryan Jenkins ⭐️

Bryan Jenkins graduated from Newhouse School with a degree in Advertising and has since become Executive Vice President at Sustena: a Pariveda Company where he helps brands strategically grow their marketing and campaigns. As a creative and strategist at heart, Bryan has dedicated his career to helping brands find and define their story.

Newhouse NYC students had the amazing opportunity to hear Bryan share his journey navigating a career post-graduation and embracing the unknown. He shared valuable insights on the power of branding and how a strong, distinct identity can help set a company apart. His advice to students is to "follow the thing you want to do and see where it takes you."

Last night our students had the opportunity to hear from Morgan Radford, anchor and correspondent for NBC News and the co-anchor of NBC News Daily. While she’s not a Newhouse alumna, Morgan Radford has been one of Newhouse NYC’s most generous supporters, and we’re grateful for the time she spent with our students. She spoke candidly about her career path and what inspired her to write her first book, “Now Then,” released this spring, along with the Spanish-language edition, “Toda La Vida Es Ahora,” which came out just a couple of weeks ago.

The conversation was made even more special by the interviewer: Newhouse School and Newhouse NYC alumna Nicole Acevedo ‘16, a bilingual journalist and reporter for NBC News who has appeared on Morgan’s show many times. It was the perfect pairing.

Students left the evening with signed copies of her book, and we will know they will carry Morgan’s advice with them as they navigate and build their own careers in the industry.
