Week one of Newhouse NYC ☑️

Our students had a busy week with orientation and all of their classes. At Monday night’s “Digital Nation” class, they attended a beautiful event overlooking the Manhattan skyline at Spring Studios in Tribeca, a top venue for events, conferences and cultural programs.

The students were surrounded by creatives from XP Land to learn about the experiential industry. XP Land is digital platform for culture-shapers, strategists, creatives, technologists, brand leaders and visionaries.
Once a month they co-host an event to bring their ambitions together, and this was what our students got to experience on day one of classes!

Thank you to Professor Bruce Perlmutter for making this happen and to Melinda Cragan Lindland (Managing Director North America at Spring Studios) and Erica Boeke (Creator of XP Land) for hosting a night this class will never forget.

Orientation would not be complete without the "Meet Your Mentor" Lunch! Earlier this we welcomed the amazing Fall 2026 mentors to the Fisher Center. Day one of Newhouse NYC orientation is complete! We are always so grateful to have talented alumni come speak to our students, and today we had three Newhouse NYC alumni share their best NYC tips and tricks on the “Becoming a New Yorker” panel.

Yesterday Newhouse NYC student Zara Suvanto had the opportunity to shadow her internship supervisor, Jeremy Robinson, Executive Director at Cardboard Spaceship, at the NYSE for an Investor Day rehearsal.

She shared, “It was incredible to finally see how Cardboard’s work comes to life on the massive LED wall. Watching the rehearsal gave me a new appreciation for the level of planning, collaboration and precision that goes into producing an event like this. I’m incredibly grateful to Jeremy Robinson for his mentorship and for taking the time to show me behind-the-scenes and answer my questions throughout the day. A huge thank you to everyone at Cardboard Spaceship for such an amazing learning experience this summer!”

On Friday night, the Newhouse NYC students attended Syracuse University Night at Citi Field—filled with 750 Syracuse alumni!

They saw Felisha Legette-Jack throw the first pitch, hung out with Otto Orange and took home a special Syracuse branded New York Mets baseball hat. They even met Mike Janela, the Gameday and Digital Host for the Mets (and one of the kindest and biggest Newhouse NYC supporters).

It was a great night, and we can’t wait for next year’s game! 🍊

Last night we had our final Summer Dinner Party of the semester with Newhouse alumna Sharon Kanter, Global Marketing Vice President at Stuart Weitzman. The students had so many questions, she ended up staying an additional 45 minutes after the dinner to answer them all! Sharon Kanter is always willing to meet with our Newhouse NYC students, and we’re grateful for her support semester after semester. ✨

Thank you to all of the accomplished professionals who came each week to spend time with our summer students to talk about their careers and share the best advice to succeed in the industry. We couldn’t do it without your support and your kindness.
