💗🎀 Membership Monday Spotlight: Breast Cancer Awareness 🎀💗

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as we continue our focus on Health & Wellness, this week’s Membership Monday Spotlight is dedicated to raising awareness, encouraging early detection, and supporting those impacted by breast cancer.

Today, we’re taking a walk down memory lane and sharing photos from past Breast Cancer Awareness Walks, where our Tau Nu Omega sisters came together in solidarity to support survivors, honor those we’ve lost, and stand alongside those continuing their fight. 🎀
Early detection matters! Regular breast cancer screenings, including mammograms when recommended, can help detect breast cancer early, when treatment may be more effective. We encourage everyone to stay informed, know their family history, and speak with their healthcare provider about when to begin screening. 💗

🚶🏾‍♀️💕 And we’re walking again! Join Tau Nu Omega next Sunday, October 25, as we come together once again to raise awareness, show our support, and walk for a cause that touches so many lives.

💗💚 Membership Monday Spotlight: Health & Wellness 💚💗
As we continue our focus on Health & Wellness, this week we’re spotlighting our sister Lakia Jordan, a School-Based Support Team Social Worker with the New York City Department of Education. ✨
In her role, Lakia works closely with children and families throughout the evaluation process to determine eligibility for an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). She educates parents on their parental rights, conducts Social History Evaluations and classroom observations, and provides clinical intervention to students who need additional support to be academically successful.
For Lakia, the most rewarding part of her work is helping children recognize what is possible for themselves. 💕
“I love helping children see their potential and develop skill sets that foster lifelong growth. I have the opportunity to walk with children on their journey to building confidence, relationships, and overall wellbeing.”
As both a School Social Worker and psychotherapist, Lakia emphasizes the importance of self-care—not as an occasional luxury, but as part of our everyday lives.
💚 Her wellness reminder:
“If you do not take care of your physical, mental, and emotional health, you are unable to show up 100% with work and your relationships.”
And self-care doesn’t always require a vacation or a day off. Lakia reminds us that it can be as simple as incorporating breathing and meditation techniques into your morning routine, eating healthy, and spending time with loved ones.
Her message is simple and important: You must put yourself first! 💗💚
Thank you, Lakia, for the work you do to support the well-being and growth of our children and for reminding us that caring for others begins with making time to care for ourselves. ✨

💗💚 Membership Monday Spotlight: Celebrating Sisterhood 💚💗

As we close out the last Membership Monday of September, we’re wrapping up our month-long celebration of sisterhood with a special moment from the 57th Annual African American Day Parade in Harlem! ✨

Tau Nu Omega was proud to take part in this longstanding celebration of Black culture, community, and heritage. Amid the excitement of the day, our sisters also had an opportunity to share a special moment of sisterhood with Dr. Tonja L. Ringgold, North Atlantic Regional Director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. 💕💚

From serving together to celebrating together, September has been a beautiful reminder that sisterhood shows up in so many ways. Whether within our chapter, throughout our region, or out in the community, the bonds we share continue to connect us wherever we go. What a wonderful way to close out a month of Celebrating Sisterhood—together in Harlem! 💗💚✨
