On the evening of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, our BLMI scholars, alumni, and advisory board members gathered for a powerful night of brotherhood, community, and legacy.

Through shared meals, intentional dialogue, and moving reflections, we reinforced a culture of excellence where every brother is empowered to rise and lift as he climbs.

This event marked the conclusion of this year’s BLMI Phoenix College which serves as a transformative and vital space where we navigate the complexities of identity, masculinity, navigating professional landscapes, and preparing for life after college.

We extend our deepest gratitude to this year’s incredible guest speakers who poured into our collective:
- Dr. Lawrence Johnson (Brooklyn College)
- Dr. Jamel Hudson (Baruch College)
- Barry Cooper and Demetrius Similien ()
- Dr. Michael Rodriguez ()
- Ron West ()

The journey doesn’t end here. We continue to rise, together.

Congratulations to our Mellon Transfer Student Research Program (MTSRP) fellows! 🧐 On Friday, May 8, these scholars presented their research at the MTSRP Conference. Their study examines the lived experiences of Black and Brown men in higher education. Initial findings underscore how critical spaces like BLMI foster a supportive campus environment. Within these spaces, students thrive, find empowerment, and reclaim narratives surrounding masculinity. A special shoutout to their research advisor Dr. Lawrence Johnson. We look forward to the next phase of the study and its implications for how we as an institution can continue to improve our practices and supports.

BLMI Study Abroad Spotlight 🎓🌍

Celebrating Danish Saleem, our scholarship recipient who studied abroad in Viña del Mar, Chile 🇨🇱… where vibrant streets, ocean views, and everyday adventures became part of his classroom! From navigating a new culture to building connections across borders, his journey was all about stepping outside his comfort zone and truly living the experience ✈️🌊

Through it all, Danish embraced curiosity by asking questions, meeting new people, and leaning into every moment of growth. His time abroad didn’t just expand his perspective, it reinforced his purpose: to make a meaningful impact wherever life takes him 🌎✨
Chile may be known for its breathtaking coastlines and colorful hills, but for Danish, it became a place of confidence, connection, and clarity 💫

Proud to support journeys like his through BLMI 🤎
